Assuming that the latest rumors are true, this could lead to a silent revolution among fans of “A Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy novel series by critically-acclaimed author George R.R. Martin.
There are reports going around that George Martin is still chapters and hundreds of pages away from completing the sixth book of the series “The Winds of Winter” so from a rumored release date of anytime in 2017 before Season 7 of the HBO hit series “Game of Thrones,” there are now speculations claiming that the book may actually hit book shelves in 2018 at the earliest.
Assuming it does come out in 2018, it is likely that “The Winds of Winter” would already be released after the eighth and final season of “Game of Thrones” that year.
While the 2018 release date is way off from the projections made by fans and critics last year, some are saying that such timeline also makes sense in a way. Releasing “The Winds of Winter” anytime before Season 7 or Season 8 of “Game of Thrones” may result in possible confusion of storylines.
Most of the fans of “Game of Thrones” are also fans and readers of “A Song of Ice and Fire.” As such, they can immediately notice any deviation from the novel series.
With the TV series overtaking the novel series already, the deviation may become even more obvious which could actually lead to further confusion. Thus, it would be to the best interest of both the TV series and George Martin that the sixth book is released after the show makes its final bow on TV.
Losing patience on Martin
There are some fans who are starting to lose their patience on the very slow writing pace of George Martin.
In a tweet late last month, Martin said that he has already written a lot for “The Winds of Winter” already but there are still a lot of things still left to write. He ended his post by saying that he is months away from completing the book.
The social media post doused cold water on fans who once believe the rumors that the sixth book of the fantasy novel series may come out any time before Season 7 of “Game of Thrones,” reports the Parent Herald.
“Game of Thrones” Season 7 will start airing in the summer of next year, which is a push back from its traditional airing date of April over its past six seasons.
That would have bought Martin more than enough time to finish writing the book already considering that it has been reported to be in the final stages from way back in late 2014.
Losing the materials for the manuscript
There are also rumors swirling around these days saying that Martin has reportedly lost the materials for completing “The Winds of Winter” manuscript which is what has been causing the delay, reports Game & Guide.
But critics believe that it is just another delaying tactic from both Martin and the publisher of the books in order to either buy time for the completion of the book or push its release date after the Season 8 finale of “Game of Thrones” next year.
They aver that it would be next to impossible for a veteran author like George Martin to lose materials on his next book that has been too long in the making already. And besides, his materials are actually based on his thoughts and imagination so it would be difficult to lose those unless he suddenly develops dementia.
There are also absurd speculations saying that because the materials were already lost, George Martin is reportedly abandoning the writing of the sixth book, “The Winds of Winter,” and the seventh book, “A Dream of Spring,” of the fantasy novel series.
Not only are such rumors absurd, it is also downright ridiculous and it is obvious that fans are being trolled by some wise guys making their trade on the internet.
As it is, a 2016 release date for “The Winds of Winter” no longer seems possible at this time.
