As Season 6 of the popular TV series “Game of Thrones” on HBO is now in production, many of its fans are presuming that critically-acclaimed author George R.R. Martin is already through writing the sixth book in his fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire.”
However, during a recent interview, Martin was quoted as saying that he has yet to finish writing the two books of the series, one of which is “The Winds of Winter,” and he still has so much to do. He also admitted that he is such a slow writer that fans get upset because he does not write faster, details News Everyday.
In fact, Martin also said that the pressure is now on him to finish the book soon so that it comes out before Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” premieres on HBO around April next year.
Previous reports indicate that “The Winds of Winter” will be launched anytime from October this year to March next year and with the onset of the month of October, the countdown has also begun on the release date of the sixth book of Martin’s fantasy novel series.
‘Game of Thrones’ movie
Martin also responded to rumors that a “Game of Thrones” movie is now under works. The speculations about the prospective film actually began after he commented during a post-Emmy Awards party that he does not want to be involved in a film version of the novel if ever because he has so much to do, cites the Independent of UK.
He claims that his comment was taken out of context and that it is not true that there is a “Game of Thrones” movie that will soon be under works although he finds the idea powerfully attractive.
During the post-Emmy Awards party, Martin was quoted as saying that if there will be a movie, he will not be involved in it because he has so much to do. He even added that it is something that HBO and producers and writers DB Weiss and David Benioff will have to deal with.
Reports have it that the movie will actually be a prequel to the TV series and thus will feature dead characters from the HBO show. It seems that Martin made the rebuttal, not of the movie per se but the supposed plot that has made the rounds on the internet, referring to it as nonsense.
Many fans of the TV series and the book series would really find it fascinating though to have a movie prequel to “Game of Thrones” because it will likely feature several fan-favorite characters who will still be alive in the film including Ned Stark, Catelyn Stark, Robb Stark, Prince Oberyn Martell, among several others.
HBO refuses to comment to either confirm or deny the speculations about the “Game of Thrones” movie, obviously focusing instead on Season 6 of the TV series premiering next spring.
Martin was later on quoted as saying that idea of having a movie finishing the “Game of Thrones” TV series greatly appeals to the actors because it is surely one way to end with a bang.
Through writing the book
With the production for Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” already underway since July, it is obvious that book six of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire” titled “The Winds of Winter” is already through.
While the critically-acclaimed author has been saying as of July that he has yet to finish writing the book, looking at the timeline for the TV series, he would just be putting pressure on himself in finishing the seventh book if the sixth book is not yet finished by this time.
Assuming that it is true that Martin has yet to finish writing “The Winds of Winter,” then he only has until the end of the year to complete it. It is imperative that the book comes out before Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” is aired on HBO in April next year.
Obviously any prequel made would be about King Robert’s Rebellion. It would make an awesome movie, but it would need to be long to do it justice.
