This is the first time since its series premiere in 2009 that “The Vampire Diaries” gets a schedule shake-up. The show has been a mainstay at Thursday nights ever since.
According to reports, the show might be facing cancellation soon as the ratings have taken a big dip after Dobrev’s departure.
Cast and the showrunners have labeled this season as a transitional season for the show, but Celebrity Dirty Laundry says that this might be the least season for the supernatural drama.
While some fans have stated that Season 7 allowed the show and the characters to start on a clean slate, the majority of the fan base were really disappointed with Dobrev’s departure and the ending for her character.
There are also reports surfacing that lead star Ian Somerhalder is already planning on following the footsteps of his former co-star and ex-girlfriend in leaving the show before it gets cancelled.
According to Realty Today, Somerhalder’s wife Nikki Reed is wooing her husband to try out other job offers and do movies.
Movie News Guide also says that the 37-year-old actor is already distancing himself from the show’s cast and crew in preparation for his departure, but this was immediately rebuffed as a representative for Ian says that he is actively present in filming episodes of “The Vampire Diaries.”
