‘Orange is the New Black’ Actor Michael Harney Confirms He Will Continue to Represent the Mentally Ill Community in Season 5!

Season 5 of the American comedy-drama TV series “Orange is the New Black” will see the character Sam Healy back for more action.

Actor Michael Harney, who plays the role of Sam Healy, has confirmed that he will return to Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black” when it returns to Netflix in the spring of next year.

Harney also says that he is honored to be able to represent the mentally ill community through his effective portrayal of the show.

He explained that the population needs support and he believes that there are programs that backstop the folks struggling with their needs.

The actor said that he is really impassioned to do his Sam Healy role in “Orange is the New Black” in a way that he did because the heavy-duty sufferings of the character actually reflect the major challenges of the mentally ill community, reports the Ecumenical News.

In a previous interview, he said he has no idea whether he shall be reprising his role as Sam Healy again in Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black.”

He said that he feels very comfortable with the writers of “Orange is the New Black.” They just give him things to do and then he just kind of ride the wave in the ocean.

Harney added that he just gets on it and go with it. As he goes in his career, he prefers having a freshness to things and he did not really know anything until he got his hands on the script of those episodes.

Continuing the flourishing friendship

During Season 4 of “Orange is the New Black,” Sam Healy developed a strong friendship with Lolly Whitehill, played by actress Lori Petty.

Their friendship has gone beyond to Sam being more than just a counselor at the Litchfield Penitentiary. It could be recalled that Lolly was sent to the psychiatric ward during Season 4 and fans are expecting that she would get out of it with Sam’s help.

When Harney confirmed his character’s return for Season 5, it was also as good as saying that Lolly Whitehill would also be around when the top-rating TV series returns to Netflix in June of next year.

In an interview with Lori Petty, she recalled that while shooting the psychiatric ward scene, she did some looping and she saw that it looked great.

Then she realized that the production team built a huge hallway with rooms and a whole new set.

She believes that her stay in the ward will be included in the storylines in the show but she is not really sure how it is going to be for Season 5. She is just expressing her wishful thoughts and would like to be given the opportunity to play the Lolly Whitehill role once again.

Lolly was dragged into the psychiatric ward after the body of Aydin, played by Juri Henley-Cohn, was discovered and Healy believed that it was Lolly who killed him, details the Christian Times.

The actress says in jest that when the psychiatric ward of Litchfield Penitentiary is featured in Season 5 of “Orange is the New Black,” she is going to be the star on it.

Piper and Alex all over again?

“Orange is the New Black” in Netflix features an all-female ensemble since it is all about the fictitious Litchfield Penitentiary for women.

Right from the start, the storyline of the popular TV series revolves around Piper Chapman, played by Taylor Schilling, and Alex Vause, played by Lauro Prepon.

It could be recalled that it is because of Alex that caused Piper to be incarcerated as well but when the latter got in Litchfield, their relationship has been subjected to a lot of ordeals and challenges that it eventually led to their split and their relationship finally taking a backseat in the show.

  1. There is no mentally ill “community”, but a broad a diverse demographic, earning to the millions, holding every university degree, and every professional white, and blue collar job.
