‘The Winds of Winter’ Will Not Be Spoiled by ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6, Assures George R.R. Martin!

Now that February is here and Season 6 of the HBO hit TV series “Game of Thrones” is just a little over two months away from premiering on the small screen, it seems clear that “The Winds of Winter” will not be released anytime from now up to the Season 6 premiere of the show.

Reports from last month even indicate that “The Winds of Winter” which happens to be the sixth book of the fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire” by critically-acclaimed author George R.R. Martin, will not come out after the premiere of “Game of Thrones” Season 6, it will actually be released in 2017.

Fans of “The Winds of Winter” are now disappointed with the situation since they were relying heavily on the book, as the source material for “Game of Thrones” to give them spoilers for Season 6, or possibly Season 7 too.

Over the past five seasons of “Game of Thrones,” fans have made the first five books of “A Song of Ice and Fire” as the ultimate source of spoilers for possibilities in the TV series.

While there have been a good number of deviations in the TV series from what was written in the book, but the main storylines were pretty much consistent.

The source material being outpaced by the TV series

It was actually George Martin who confirmed in his blog that “Game of Thrones” has already outpaced him. He also stated that “The Winds of Winter” is not done yet and that there is still a long way to go before he gets to the finish line.

He also said that while he has written a lot for “The Winds of Winter,” he confirmed that the book is still months away from completion.

Martin went on to explain that he can’t think of any other instance where the movie or TV show came out as the source material was still being written. The case of “The Winds of Winter” and “Game of Thrones” is quite unique.

He however assured fans of the books that “Game of Thrones” may or may not spoil the books because some of the spoilers that fans would encounter in Season 6 of the TV series may not be spoilers at all because the show and the books have already diverged and will continue to do so, notes the Christian Today.

Instead of providing a timeframe as to when “The Winds of Winter” will finally hit the store shelves, Martin simply promised that he will do everything he can to make sure that the book is as good as it can be when it comes out and make it worth the long wait for readers.

Ready before Season 7 of ‘Game of Thrones’

With the 2017 release date of “The Winds of Winter,” reports are now rife that the book could actually come out before the seventh season of “Game of Thrones,” cites Latinos Health.

That was actually the report about “The Winds of Winter” early last year. Back then, it was widely speculated that the book would come out before Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” leaving fans to speculate a six-month timeframe from October 2015 to March 2016. Apparently, the speculations were wrong as George Martin has indeed succumbed to writing delays due to his recent commitments including interviews, TV guestings, and even travels.

The Winds of Winter

It seems that all those extra activities have affected his writing of “The Winds of Winter” and now fans are seeing that he was really telling the truth when he said early in 2015 that he is still working on the book.

The TV series has caught up with the sixth book, a situation which Martin describes as comparable to a giant locomotive moving behind him and putting more pressure on him to release it soon.

At the onset of the New Year, it has become clear that “The Winds of Winter” will no longer be coming out before the Season 6 premiere of “Game of Thrones” but after it.

  1. Will George finish Winds of Winter using some story lines from the TV show when he can? Seems that would be the easiest thing for him to do. Then he’ll have all the stories in sync to finish the series in book 7.
