Tesla Cars are Coming to India Later This Year, Confirmed by the Company’s CEO Elon Musk

When Uber CEO, Travis Kalanick visited India last year, one statement that he gave was that India would be the last place to get autonomous cars. Kalanick’s reason for saying so, was not without reason, for he said that if one sees the way people drive here, and the utter disregard people have for traffic rules will make autonomous cars a challenge on the Indian streets.

It is indeed an undeniable fact for India, one that comes from CEO of the only international ride-sharing company that at present is gunning for driverless taxis and trucks with services already active in the United States on a test basis.

His reasons for the case were somewhat straightforward and had to do with driving patterns that road users and drivers or riders follow or don’t in India. Add to this intricate concoction, rules, and regulations, and you get the idea; it would take more than a decade to get fully autonomous cars into the country given how slow our roadworks are.

Kalanick also said that he is pretty sure, Tesla CEO Elon Musk would have a similar response. Lucky for everyone who pre-booked the Model 3 in India, it’s not self-driving but just an all-electric, which means that its minus the charging stations that’s all.
