‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ Rumored Release Date Pushed Back to 2018; Game Speculated to Come Out VR-Ready by Then

Three major gaming events over the past four months and still no official word from American game developer Rockstar Games about the highly-anticipated open world Western action-adventure video game “Red Dead Redemption 2,” critics and gamers are now convinced that it would no longer come out next year contrary to previous reports.

“Red Dead Redemption 2” was rumored first to be launched during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 held in Los Angeles, California in June but it was a no-show.

The reason back then was that the game features a scene resembling of what happened during the ghastly Orlando shooting incident in a club also that month that resulted in the death of more than 50 people and injury to more than 50 others.

Subsequently, it was rumored that Rockstar Games shall make the announcement about “Red Dead Redemption 2” during the Gamescom 2016 held in Cologne, Germany last month. But that did not happen again.

The third rumor stated that the game is expected to be unveiled during the PlayStation Meeting held early this month. Again, Rockstar Games did not do anything during the meeting.

Thus, it becomes clear that “Red Dead Redemption 2” would no longer come out next year but most likely in 2018, reports Game & Guide.

By that time, it is believed that the popularity of the virtual reality (VR) may have caught on in the gaming industry so the game is likely to come out VR-ready.

However, even these remain as speculations since Rockstar Games has yet to say anything official about “Red Dead Redemption 2.”

The official title of the game

“Red Dead Redemption 2” is actually the third game in the franchise that started with “Red Dead Revolver” and then “Red Dead Redemption.”

Thus, there have been reports saying that the official title of the game shall be “Red Dead Redemption: Legends of the West.” There are also suggestions saying that the working title of the game should not be “Red Dead Redemption 2” but “Red Dead 3,” notes Trusted Review.

It has been rumored since last year that “Red Dead Redemption 2” will come out on the gaming consoles and the PC this year.

Eventually, reports started coming out the game would no longer come out this year as Rockstar Games would be releasing first the remastered version of “Red Dead Redemption” on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, and the PC in the first half of 2017.

Subsequently, “Red Dead Redemption 2” would come out after the remastered version of the original game comes out. Thus, it is likely that the game would be released in the second half of next year or in 2018.

Coming to the new PS4 model

Reports were also saying then that when the remastered version of the game comes out in the first half of next year, it will also be launched alongside a new model of the PlayStation 4, which according to insiders could either be the PS4 Slim or the PS4 Neo.

Early this month, Sony launched the new PS4 variant and it was neither both as the company launched the PS4 Pro due to hit the market on November 10.

Red Dead Redemption 2

There are also rumors saying that “Red Dead Redemption 2” can only be played exclusively on the PlayStation 4 Neo, now the PS4 Pro, but it seems unlikely since the first two games of the franchise came out on both on the Sony and the Microsoft gaming consoles as well as the PC.

For its part, Sony also clarified that there will be no video game that should come out as exclusively playable on the PlayStation 4 Neo, now the PS4 Pro, because it limits the playability of the game apart from disappointing other gamers who do not own the particular gaming platform.
