Piper Chapman, played by Taylor Schilling, is practically the main protagonist of the American comedy-drama TV series “Orange is the New Black” ever since the show started more than three years ago on Netflix.
After all, Schilling’s character in the TV series is based on the real-life prison experience of Piper Kerman, the author of “Orange is the New Black” book, which is the source material for the Netflix show.
However, for the upcoming fourth season of “Orange is the New Black,” it seems that Piper Chapman will take a backseat in terms of show focus because apparently the limelight will be shone upon the backstories of the other characters in the TV series, notes the Christian Today.
It was showrunner Jenji Kohan who confirmed during the Television Critics Association winter press tour in January that Piper is on a journey of rediscovering herself during the latter part of Season 3 and also on the upcoming Season 4. She said that the character is going through the vicissitudes of likeability.
Kohan hinted that the heroine of the TV series will become someone who viewers will refuse to root for in Season 4, which could either mean that Piper will turn to her dark side, or she will just drop from the radar.
Some big changes
In a recent interview, Yael Stone, who plays Lorna Morello in “Orange is the New Black” revealed that there are going to be some major changes for the inmates when the series returns in June this year.
She disclosed that there are some big beautiful storylines in the upcoming season because Jenji Kohan is not afraid to write funny or write from the heart and she has certainly done that for Season 4 of ‘Orange is the New Black.”
What Stone knows is that the plot would be very powerful for people, which is more than enough to further heighten fan excitement and anticipation over the release of “Orange is the New Black” Season 4 which shall officially happen on June 17.
The upcoming season will also show the Litchfield Penitentiary pushing all of the different groups together resulting in unexpected alliances between certain groups and characters.
Returning celebrity chef
Meanwhile, new cast member Blair Brown, who plays celebrity chef Judy King, will return to “Orange is the New Black” Season 4 and her arrival at the Litchfield Penitentiary will apparently cause waves, details Movie News Guide.
Judy King’s return will certainly be celebrated by Poussey, played by Samira Wiley, who is quite a fan of hers.
In a recent interview, Brown said that her character in “Orange is the New Black” is slightly appealing, very good, very cheerful, and probably fairly amoral.
The actress said that her character would be very interesting to watch as she is very different from the other inmates, and along the way, Poussey becomes her greatest ally.
In the previous season, Judy was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in women’s prison. As a fan of the celebrity chef, Poussey Washington gets overexcited with the news of Judy’s arrival to the prison.
Another more interesting highlight of Season 3 of “Orange is the New Black” on Netflix is the love triangle that took place between Piper Chapman, Alex Vause, played by Laura Prepon, and Stella Carlin, played by upstart but widely-acclaimed Ruby Rose.
Piper and Alex used to be a couple but they had a falling out and that’s when Stella came into the picture, getting close and chummy with Piper in the process, much to the chagrin of Alex.
The huge cliffhanger during the Season 3 finale saw Alex getting trapped into a corner by a security guard who turned out to be an assassin. The hit was apparently arranged by Kubra, played by Eyas Younis.
However, most of the fans and viewers of “Orange is the New Black” are now aware that Alex would be back for Season 4 and she would be able to survive the ordeal. It was actually Laura Prepon herself who quashed speculations that her character is going to die when she posted on social media a few months ago a selfie of herself and her Litchfield Penitentiary ID.
