The company recently proved that they care about customers’ opinions by reverting a major change to the mod workshop in Steam, which would have allowed mod authors to profit from their work. While the idea was good in nature, it was executed in a very poor way, leading to a lot of backlash from the community.
Valve and Bethesda were quick to revert the change though, explaining that it was an experiment gone wrong, and that they could have handled it in a better way. In the end, it sounded like we’ll still get the modding workshop in one form or another sometime in the future, but at least it will be more refined.
The idea definitely does have potential, but Valve will have to rethink it significantly before deciding to bring it back to the market – and for that, they should just keep an eye on online discussions, as there are plenty of opinions out there.
