“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is to officially hit theaters worldwide on March 25, 2016. But because some have already taken advantage of the movie’s early screenings, including most critics, the reviews of the movie are coming along pretty nicely.
While there have been reports that most of the critics are saying a lot of negative things about the movie, it seems that those are contrary to the collection of reviews made by Newsarama recently from fans and critics alike who were able to watch the movie already.
Of the more than 20 reviews presented by the news website, only one rated the movie 6.9 out of the possible high score of 10. The rest rated the movie from 7.5 to 9, which only indicates that amid some of the usual flaws, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” lived up to the hype and delivered on its promise.
Admittedly, buzz and word of mouth are crucial factors in the success or failure of a predicted blockbuster movie and it seems that the film is headed to making it to the Top 10 list of all-time highest grossing movies. Some critics are even saying that the movie would earn, at the very least, US$1.6 billion, which would make it the No. 4 all-time highest grossing movie, following “Avatar,” “Titanic,” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
The movie is expected to become the first official blockbuster of 2016 amid some critics’ reviews alluding that the film fell short of its target.
The early reviews
Fan Bradley Painter said that he loved the movie because it has a lot of moving parts and intricacies, which all make sense and work together.
He also said that “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is a heavy film but it needs to be. He said that the most frustrating part about the critic’s reviews of the film is that they are looking at it as if it is not a superhero film at all, which is inaccurate.
They have to suspend themselves in disbelief because everything is possible in fiction and that is the element of DC Comics as well as Marvel Comics. The film is not vying to win a Best Picture award. Painter rated the movie 8.5.
Tony Garcia rated the movie as 8 because he finds it grandiose. He explained that because it is a comic book movie, there will be good and bad things. He believes that despite its flaws, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is a great start for Warner Bros in the unveiling of the DC Extended Universe.
He said that Ben Affleck delivered an amazing performance while Henry Cavill was able to succeed in showing a more human side to the Man of Steel. Cavill is not yet on the level of Christopher Reeves but he is perfect for Warner Bros’ vision based on the comic book movie franchises
Garcia also believes that Gal Gadot, as Wonder Woman, is the break-out star of the film because she gave justice to her role. She also stole every scene she was in and her interpretation of the character is exactly what die-hard fans of Wonder Woman want to see.
Neutrality and open-mindedness
Mario Campa gave the movie a rating of 9 saying that a neutral and open-minded moviegoer going into the cinema would not have a negative cinematic experience with “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
He also debunked some critics who said that the movie is too dark because comic fans know that is not always true.
Campa also said that the dialogue and the score are what make the film feel so grand and even operatic, adding that it’s a great movie by any standard. And that some are merely criticizing based on their own interpretation or their own favorite iteration of Batman and Superman from the way they know previously.
Meanwhile, critic Walter Chaw posted on Film Freak Central his review of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and he practically joined a good number of critics who have been saying a lot of negative things about the movie.
When he compared the movie to the real-life events and said that it was allowed by the producers to be run by inmates, he obviously had some issues or pretending to be a great film critic.
