What’s Coming after Star Wars: Episode VIII? Rumors Claim J. J. Abrams Coming for Ninth Movie!

The “Star Wars” franchise got a somewhat unexpected revival, and it’s been moving forward quite rapidly ever since – while we’re waiting for the current production to finish, there are already rumors that J. J. Abrams is being recruited for “Star Wars: Episode IX” and the director could quite possibly come back for the next film as well.

Abrams is currently finishing up his work on “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, and it’s not known if the director has any plans to continue working on the franchise after the current film, though it’s very likely. He has good reasons to consider that, and he’s been enjoying a lot of attention for his work so far, so it only makes sense that we would see more of his touch in the future films.

He always manages to find his way to a “Star Wars” production when he wants to be on board lately, and “Episode VIII” has him listed in the credits as an executive producer, even though we’re not sure how much he has contributed precisely. It’s been speculated that his involvement with “Episode VIII” has been only marginal, but in any case, the mere presence of his name in the credits tends to always give fans something to look forward to, even though he didn’t use to be associated with this franchise until not long ago.

However, even though fans would likely love to see Abrams contributing more to the “Star Wars” films, the question is whether the director himself wants to do that at this point. There have been rumors that Abrams and Disney have been unable to come to an agreement on various levels, and that things are looking bad with regards to the prospect of Abrams wanting to stay.

He’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop his career in other directions even if he decides to leave “Star Wars”, however, as the director is already in very high demand all throughout Hollywood and he’s definitely not one to complain about a lack of work. He also seems to be the kind of person who would rather choose a project based on principle rather than financial gains or career development, which some of his fans have admired him for.

In the end, we know very little about “Episode IX” right now, and whether or not Abrams will be taking part in its production is still under speculation. It’s definitely a fun possibility to think about though, and the franchise could actually live on for quite a lot longer afterwards with the right touch. Will there be even more beyond the currently announced third trilogy?
