If the title of the open-world action adventure third-person shooter video game “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” is any indication, protagonist Nathan Drake would likely meet his demise in the fourth and final iteration of the video game franchise.
The death of Nathan Drake in the upcoming video game “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” was actually hinted by Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann in a recent interview when he said that the best way for the series to end is to honor the protagonist where he shall go out on top and finish his story.
Over the past three games in the series, Nathan Drake has proven himself to be a hard man to kill. However, despite overcoming a lot of death-defying adventures in the past, Nathan Drake is still a mortal man.
While Neil Druckmann did not say directly that Nathan Drake will die in “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,” he did say that it is very remote for publisher Sony to bring back the video game title in the future following the end of the upcoming game.
Not bothered in killing off characters
Given the strong feeling of permanence in Druckmann’s statements, it only suggests that “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” will take a turn for the worse, details iDigital Times.
Many gamers and critics believe that it does not make sense for Naughty Dog to kill off such a beloved character. However, Naughty Dog has killed off major characters three times in one of its popular video games “The Last of Us.”
While none of those characters were main protagonists in “The Last of Us,” it nonetheless showed that Naughty Dog is not afraid to take storytelling risks that will surprise its fans.
Druckmann also sort of confirmed the death of Nathan Drake when he was also quoted as saying that when all is said and done, “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” is truly the end of Nathan Drake.
However, he opened the possibility of a prequel but then the protagonist should be a different character. He reiterated that “Uncharted 4” will definitely end for Nathan Drake.
New release date
From a worldwide release date of March 18 exclusively on the PlayStation 4, “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” will come out instead on April 26 in the US. It will arrive the following day in most of Europe, except the UK, and on the 29th, it will finally make it to the UK video game retail markets, cites Expert Reviews.
Naughty Dog explains that the delay was necessary so that it would be able to buy more time to finish the game and meet its standard and vision.
Druckmann explained that “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” is the largest in the video game series and the development team has been working incredibly hard to meet the challenge of closing out the game’s development in a timely manner.
However, when the deadline drew near and they started wrapping up the game’s levels, they realized that several key sequences needed extra resources to bring the game to the finish line.
After carefully considering their options, Naughty Dog decided to extend its schedule, making sure that they give it a few more polish passes before submitting their gold master, the final disc for manufacturing.
Druckmann said that pushing the date is not an easy choice and they would not do it if they did not feel in their hearts that it is the best course of action for the game.
Meanwhile, a new cutscene and dialogue mechanic of “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” was presented during the PlayStation Experience held in San Francisco, California early in December last year.
Neil Druckman and several cast actors of the widely-anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusive video game held court in a panel during the PSX event.
The cutscene of “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” shown during the PSX event featured Nathan Drake’s brother, Sam. However, what excited fans and gamers more is the fact that for the first time in the video game series, the fourth installment will be getting its long-overdue backstory.
