It seems that critically-acclaimed author George R.R. Martin has all the right reasons to withhold the release of “The Winds of Winter,” the sixth book of his critically-acclaimed fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire.”
Reports have it that “The Winds of Winter” will be the ultimate spoiler to Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” as the book shall not only cover the plotlines of the upcoming sixth season but also the show’s seventh season in 2017.
Given that premise, releasing the book anytime before the premiere of Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” on HBO in April, it will give millions of fans of the novel and the TV series enough time to dig deep into the book and know right away what will happen to every episode of the show.
While “Game of Thrones” showrunners said previously that they have made changes to the plotlines of the TV series vis-à-vis the George Martin’s novel, it cannot be denied that the main storylines on the book have been captured by the show.
A variation on storylines can only be taken so much by the show lest the executive producers wander off the gist of the critically-acclaimed fantasy novel series.
Focus on Daenerys bringing fire to Westeros
Reports also have it that “The Winds of Winter” shall also detail how Daenerys Targaryen will bring fire and blood to Westeros through war.
Accordingly, Daenerys will likely start a bloodbath in Westeros as she brings her army and dragons to Westeros to finally unseat the Lannisters.
The speculations seems to have gotten a strong leg to stand on especially in light of the recent interview of Emilia Clarke, who plays the role of Daenerys Targaryen in “Game of Thrones,” where she said that her character will have several challenges ahead of her in the next episodes of the TV series, details the Latin Post.
She said that Daenerys will attain her ultimate goal of getting back the iron throne and winning it all.
It was actually Clarke who revealed that Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” may be released in two installments, hinting that there will be a Season 8, consistent with previous reports.
Season 8 of “Game of Thrones” would premiere in the spring of 2018, which is just two years from the release of “The Winds of Winter.” Given the writing pace of George R.R. Martin, it is almost impossible and so not like him if he releases “A Dream of Spring” before Season 8.
Spring 2016 release
It is already certain that “The Winds of Winter” will come out in 2016. Speculations have it that the reason why it is being withheld by Martin is that he does not want to make it the source of the ultimate spoilers for Season 6 of “Game of Thrones.”
However, what seems clear at this point is that the seventh and final book of the fantasy novel series, titled “A Dream of Spring” will not come out in 2017 before Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” premieres on HBO.
Based on Martin’s writing timeline, it took him five years from releasing the third book of the series “A Storm of Swords” to the unveiling of the fourth book titled “A Feast for Crows.” Then from the fourth book to the fifth book titled “A Dance of Dragons,” Martin took all of six years to complete. From the fifth book to “The Winds of Winter,” the author spent another five years so it is very unlikely that he would be able to complete the seventh book in just one year.
It seems that Martin himself hinted of the spring release of “The Winds of Winter” when he made a cameo appearance on the Halloween episode of the Syfy TV series “Z Nation,” notes the Parent Herald.
