Jo, played by Jodi Lyn O’Keefe, was brought back to life by Bonnie along with the Heretic Oscar in the fourth episode all thanks to the Phoenix stone. Speaking to TV Line, O’Keefe says she was actually surprised that she was tapped to come back to the show.
O’Keefe thought her character was killed off in the Season 6 finale after Kai interrupted her and Alaric’s wedding to cause massive destruction that killed her as well as linking Elena’s life to Bonnie’s.
Talking about her comeback, the actress reveals she already knows who the one occupying Jo’s body is. She adds that the upcoming episode will see her character in a lot of self-discovery pretty much like a baby being born again.
This comes as a shock to fans as the previous episode showed a flash-forward after three years that shows Alaric fathering twin girls and it’s a fact that Jo was pregnant with twins before she died.
Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries” is the first season sans lead character Elena, played by Nina Dobrev. The 26-year-old actress left the series after Season 6 along with Michael Trevino’s Tyler Lockwood leaving as series regular. Trevino, however, appeared in two episodes of Season 7 showing his character in flash-forward scenes.
