The first-person shooter video game “Star Wars: Battlefront 3” would be officially released to the next generation gaming consoles and the PC on November 17.
The game is actually the third in a series of similarly-titled video games that is why it is being referred to by gamers as “Star Wars: Battlefront 3.” In reality however, the game’s official title is “Star Wars: Battlefront” and it is technically different from the first two video games.
Game Debate reports that in addition to major changes in the gameplay compared to the previous two games in the series, “Star Wars: Battlefront 3” has actually done away with large-scale destruction in favor of video game fidelity through more detailed environments.
Recreating the Star Wars universe
According to Niklas Fegraeus, design director of game developer Digital Illusions CE (DICE), that part of their philosophy in the development of “Star Wars: Battlefront 3” is to recreate the Star Wars universe in ways never done before.
He disclosed that DICE has looked into several technologies that enabled them to truly take a leap into the new generation of video game fidelity. He said their efforts have resulted in physically-based renderings and better photogrammetry workflows.
Fegraeus said that it was not an easy thing to do but their hard work truly paid off as “Star Wars: Battlefront 3” appears to be very authentic and truly an immersive experience, which gamers would soon realize and experience when the game rolls out to the gaming consoles and the PC in November this year.
He also revealed that the new game mode called Fighter Squadron will focus on huge Starfighter battles which were made especially for dogfighting fans. Gamers and fans may have gotten a glimpse of the new game mode during the initial release of the gameplay trailer in March and also last month during the Star Wars Celebration held in Anaheim, California where X-Wings were show flying down the canyon.
It is said that flying vehicles like Y-Wings and TIE Bombers will also be available in a multitude of game modes and it will not require killstreaks to unlock.
Although obviously a radical departure from DICE’s previous first-person shooter game offerings, “Star Wars: Battlefront 3” sounds and looks very promising for gamers and only time will tell whether the game offers the tactical depth that it was hyped to be since last year.
Coming out before the film
The November 17 release date for “Star Wars: Battlefront 3” on the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and the PC pretty much dispels previous reports that the video game will come out simultaneous to the showing of the seventh installment of the “Star Wars” movie franchise.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on December 18.
Early in March, the gameplay trailer of “Star Wars: Battlefront 3” received a standing ovation when it was privately shown at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2015 held at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, Califonia. It was showcased by EA to select few partners at the GDC 2015 behind closed doors.
