In 2015, prior to the release to global cinemas of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” game developer Electronic Arts decided to capitalize on the immense popularity of the “Star Wars” franchise by coming up with an action shooter video game called “Star Wars Battlefront” in partnership with DICE.
The game came out to the gaming consoles just a few weeks before the showing of the seventh movie of the very successful “Star Wars” film franchise.
While the movie shot all the way to becoming the third highest-grossing movie of all time next only to “Avatar” and “Titanic,” the reception of the video game, while relatively successful, was not as superb as the movie was.
“Star Wars Battlefront” may have been a huge success in terms of sales, but the reception from fans and critics certainly was not as strong as EA would have liked it or hoped it to be.
Learning from its shortcomings
But instead of getting down to the lukewarm reception of the game, EA has taken the criticism on board, and now promises to rectify things this year with the ongoing development of “Star Wars Battlefront 2,” reports the Flickering Myth.
Based on the game developer’s website, the company said that they are thrilled to bring “Star Wars Battlefront 2” to fans worldwide in the 2017 holiday season.
It also explained that in the past two years, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” have opened new storylines and captured the imagination of hundreds of millions of “Star Wars” fans all over the world.
EA said that they have listened closely to their passionate “Star Wars Battlefront” community, and expanded their existing game with more great content and experiences since its launch.
As that game continues to thrive, EA said that it has likewise heard their players’ desire for even more depth and progression.
Bigger and more expansive
The game developer promises that “Star Wars Battlefront 2” will be even bigger, taking players into more locations, and allowing them to play with more heroes and characters across multiple “Star Wars” eras.
There will be new ways to play, including an all-new single-player campaign, and so much more that EA is already excited to share with their players in the months ahead.
It added that to build a game of such magnitude, they have brought together three great studios, including DICE, Motive, and Criterion, and aligned their areas of expertise to deliver an amazing experience for “Star Wars Battlefront 2.”
Latest reports have it that “Star Wars Battlefront 2” will feature content tying in to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” There are also rumors saying that the multiple eras may include a return to the prequel trilogy era as well as the OT.
Fans and gamers expect the official answers from EA in the upcoming Star Wars Celebration slated this coming April in Orlando, Florida.
Some avid gamers are saying that while the next “Battlefield” game might be a while off, but the next “Star Wars Battlefront” game is on the way.
EA originally announced the game in May of 2016 and in their recent third quarter earnings call with investors, EA illuminated some new details on the title. The game which was not referred to as “Star Wars Battlefront 2,” but rather as the next “Star Wars Battlefront” will include far more content than 2015’s “Star Wars Battlefront.”
Apparently, “Star Wars Battlefront 2” will include a single player campaign. However whether the campaign will cover the events of the original trilogy, the new “Star Wars” films or an entirely unique narrative has yet to be confirmed thus far.
