‘Rookie Blue’ Season 6 Finale Wedding of Andy and Sam May be Both a Bad and Good Sign for the Show’s Renewal for Season 7

Season 6 of the Canadian police drama TV series “Rookie Blue” has drawn to a close with the airing of its season finale on Global TV Canada, but the show is still on its sixth episode in the ABC network in the US. “Rookie Blue” has a total of 11 episodes for Season 6.

While it may be a major spoiler to the American followers of the series, but the season finale of “Rookie Blue” in Canada saw show main protagonist police officer Andy McNally, played by Missy Peregrym, having her happily ever after moment with boyfriend Detective Sam Swarek, played by Ben Bass, in a wedding ceremony.

The wedding at the season finale of Season 6 may actually mean two things for the show. It is already curtains for the show and Season 7 will not be happening so the showrunners decided to end the series on a happy note. Or the wedding could be a jump off point as the show takes on a new focal point for Season 7.

It also does not help that Executive Producer Tassie Cameron has decided to quit the show as showrunner, which means that she knows something that most people still don’t know about “Rookie Blue.”

Passionate about the show

But according to Cameron, in the event that the series is renewed for Season 7, the new showrunner will be Sherry White, cites Venture Capital Post.

Cameron explained in an interview that Sherry has been involved with the show since the very beginning, and in some ways she has very much been the beating heart of the Sam and Andy romance. The former showrunner also added that Sherry has invested in that and is very passionate about the show.

Tassie said that the tone of the show is so very Sherry, making her really a natural fit for the show. Cameron leaves the show after running 74 episodes in the course of five seasons.

Before the wedding of Sam and Andy in the 11th and final episode of Season 5 of “Rookie Blue,” their relationship actually took a lot of twists and turns beginning on the first episode, particularly when Sam revealed to Andy that he is fathering a child with his ex-girlfriend, Marlo.

In episode 6, which is to be shown in the US, Sam planned a weekend getaway with Andy that did not go perfectly as he hoped. They faced multiple setbacks and the couple needed to rise to the challenge to save the trip, details ABC.

Pretty much the gist

While there have been plenty of subplots, actions, and happenings in Season 5 of “Rookie Blue,” the main storyline evidently belongs to Andy and her romance with Sam. After the surprise revelation from Sam in the premiere episode, an equally heart-melting second episode followed where Andy still accepted Sam and his upcoming baby with Marlo

While Andy was tempted to walk away from the situation at first, just like any normal person would, many believe that it was meant to give space to Sam and allow him to choose which life or path he would choose.

There were also talks among fans of the series whether Marlo was right in telling Sam that he is fathering a baby with her. At first, Marlo wanted to keep it a secret to Sam since she does not want to disrupt his life and his relationship with Andy anymore. While it would have been a good move as far as TV viewers are concerned, in real life, it would have been foolhardy to do so.

  1. as a huge fan of Rookie Blue, I am dedicated to any and all future seasons of the show. the quality of the show is above most of what tv has to offer, and it keeps me and my family guessing “what’s going to happen next”. we look forward to watching it together and set the pvr if we can’t be home. some of us will ask for the recording to be saved so they can watch at their own convenience. we are asking for our fav show to be continued, and perhaps even extend the season.

  2. LOVE THIS SHOW! please come back for another season. it is perfect for a summer show. i love this one, Major Crimes and Rizolli & Isles. Please have another season of Rookie Blue.

  3. love this show, in season 7 would be lovely to see Sam and Andy with their own little one, and Olivier and Tracey happy again.

  4. I absolutely love this show and can only hope there will be many seasons to come. All of the actors portray their characters with such warmth and humanity, while showing, they too, possess human frailties…the interaction between love interests and partners in the department seems like real life, and keeps me watching week after week, for many years.

I look forward to this show every week. Please keep it on the air! It is real, and heartwarming…thank you to all the extraordinary actors who are in this series. It brings me hours of enjoyment! God bless you all.
