Narcos Season 2 Confirms Casting of Actor Eric Lange as CIA Special Agent Stechner!

Pablo Escobar, the character being played by Brazilian actor Wagner Moura in the American crime drama TV series “Narcos” on Netflix, may be such a big personality back when he was still alive that not only was the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) hot on his tail, even the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is also involved.

The latest reports about “Narcos,” other than the absurd rumors that it will be cancelled for Season 2, indicate that actor Eric Lange of “The Bridge” has been taken in as a series regular and he shall be portraying the role of CIA Special Agent Stechner.

Stechner will work alongside DEA operatives in Medellin, Columbia. He will be joining DEA Agent Javier Pena, played by Pedro Pascal, and DEA Agent Steve Murphy, played by Boyd Holbrook, in getting into the good graces of the Columbian drug lord and Medellin Cartel leader Pablo Escobar, details the Christian Today.

Taking charge

In addition to taking on new cast members, the second season of “Narcos” shall also take in a new set of writers after Chris Brancato left the series at the end of Season 1.

It was executive producer Eric Newman who disclosed during a press conference that he and Jose Padilha will be in charge of the production for the show’s Season 2. He also said that they looking at bringing in a new set of writers to help them with the series.

Newman said that he and Padilha will still maintain control of the show. He revealed that they had a great partner last year in the person of Chris Brancato because he did what they had hoped he would do.

He added that “Narcos” has evolved to become what they really wanted it to be and very much takes into consideration what they felt worked last season.

Newman said that there are still areas where they wanted to improve during the production but basically he is happy that “Narcos” came out as very much the show they wanted.

Staying true to real-life events

Eric Newman also revealed that if they will be staying true to real-life events, they will have no choice but to kill Pablo Escobar in the upcoming second season.

While they would have wanted to keep Pablo Escobar alive in the show, the story leaves them with no choice but to kill off the character in Season 2. Newman said that Escobar will certainly die this season, notes Crossmap.

The showrunner said that there are actually a number of things that can happen after the death of Escobar but they have not committed to one or the other. He assured fans and viewers of “Narcos” that there are a lot of other stories in this world that shall continue on beyond Escobar.

Based on what really happened in real life, it is likely that Escobar shall be able to escape the authorities in Season 2 but he will eventually be killed by the Columbian National Police.

It has been previously reported that Pablo Escobar will die in the upcoming second season of the hit show.

narcos

Based on the Season 1 finale, Season 2 would have a very limited time to focus on Escobar’s escape from La Catedral in 1992 to his death in Medellin in 1993. Filming for “Narcos” is now ongoing in Bogota, Colombia.

That means that Season 2 can only focus on the 18 months from the time that Escobar escaped from La Catedral to his death in Medellin. Thus, it is likely that the death of Pablo Escobar would be featured in the upcoming season of “Narcos,” leaving Season 3 without the main character from where its storyline can revolve.
