There has been some controversy surrounding the couples of “Married at First Sight” during its second season, namely Ryan D. and Davina, Ryan R. and Jessica, as well as Sean and Jaclyn. And while it was believed that the third season of the show was underway, it was recently reported that the producers have changed their minds in light of this controversy, and have made the decision to cancel the show.
With that in mind, the release of season 3 is under a big question mark right now, and it’s possible that the show will be discontinued. Which, judging by the number of fans it has online, would certainly be a shame – but of course it’s always better to stop the production if there are problems behind the scenes instead of trying to force people to cooperate when they don’t want to.
What exactly is the situation at the moment though? We don’t know the exact details about the current discussions, but apparently the executives at FYI have been toying with the idea of replacing the show with “Seven Year Switch”, a new show that they see as a better fit for the time slot. According to reports, they see a better message in the other production, as it’s aimed at helping couples get over the “seven-year itch”, and would be a more positive show to have on the screen.
From what we’ve read about the show so far, its basic premise would be to find two couples with seemingly similar traits, then get them to switch partners for two weeks and live together in the new arrangement. That way, the producers are hoping to see if a new partner with different traits would be beneficial or detrimental to the relationship.
And of course, being with someone else would give couples a chance to evaluate their old relationships and figure out if they want to continue them in the end. After the two week period is over, the couples have to decide whether they want to marry and renew their vows, or instead file for a divorce.
Both couples in the first season of the show have apparently been optimistic about their situation, and they believe that they would be able to get some help from the reality show. Of course, reality television revolves around drama to a large extent, and we wouldn’t be surprised if some more unpleasant developments are thrown in there to generate viewer numbers, but we don’t know what the story is like for the time being.
The show apparently shares a lot with “Married at First Sight”, and yet it’s different at its core, in a way that makes it the perfect replacement for the previous production in the eyes of FYI executives. We don’t know if the rumors about the switch are true, but it could definitely make sense if they’re looking to show a different message on the screen.
The two shows are actually made by the same teams, so it’s no surprise that they share such similarities, and fans of “Married at First Sight” will probably recognize some of the design approaches used in the original once the new show starts airing.
But whether or not it’s going to air in the same time slot, we don’t know – and for many fans, that’s the big question right now. A lot of people certainly want to see “Married at First Sight” continuing, but the controversy that was stirred up around the couples in season 2 might have been too much for the producers to handle.
