Lifetime Cancels Devious Maids! Decision Shocks Cast and the Executive Producers!

Lifetime has decided not to continue with Devious Maids Season 5. Created by Desperate Housewives’ creator Marc Cherry, the show follows the lives of Latina Maids. The series followed the format of a telenovela. It premiered on ABC and continued for four seasons on Lifetime.

The series was a huge success in the initial years. The premiere season of Devious Maids saw 3 million plus rating for the season finale. The ratings for the consecutive seasons dropped and Devious Maids Season 4 could garner only 0.923 million viewers.

Even though the TRP was dipping, it was constant. Deadline reported that Devious Maids had better viewership than the other original scripted series on Lifetime. UnReal in spite of being critically acclaimed didn’t share the average rating of Devious Maids.

Devious Maids was the only English speaking show that had an all-Latina ensemble cast. The popularity of Devious Maids helped Lifetime launch the original series, UnReal. Lifetime’s decision to cancel Devious Maids heralds the creative change in the network.

The change became visible with the release of UnReal. Following which they decided to cancel Devious Maids and have two series in the pipeline. One would be a supernatural drama series called Sea Change and the other an anthology called A Midsummer’s Nightmare.

Devious Maids Season 6 ended with a cliffhanger involving Marisol (Ana Ortiz), but there is no way of finding out what would happen next. The cast of the series is as surprised with the news of the cancellation as are the fans.

Ana Ortiz responded to the queries about her character Marisol’s fate in Devious Maids. Since Lifetime canceled the show, the fans wouldn’t be able to find out what happens to their favorite characters. One of the fans took to Twitter to ask Ana Ortiz about Marisol, and she responded to it happily.

However, Ortiz subsequently started using the hashtag #AskLifetime to make the network answer for their decision.

Sharon Lawrence, who played the role of Dania Ramirez took to social networking sites like Twitter and Instagram to share her sentiments on Lifetime’s decision. She thanked the fans for all their support and even urged them to continue supporting her in their future ventures.

Lawrence called the world of Devious Maids delicious and joked about her time on the show. Dania Ramirez thanked the team of Devious Maids. She specifically thanked the fans of her character, Rosie. Ramirez sent her love to her fans and hoped they would continue supporting her after Devious Maids.

Sol Rodriguez tweeted about how much she loved working on Devious Maids while Roselyn Sanchez said that she loved playing the role of Carmen Luna. The role that she had in Devious Maids was one of the most rewarding experiences of her life.

The cancellation of Devious Maids not only came as a surprise to the cast but also to the executive producers of the show. The executive producers already had plans for Season 5 of Devious Maids when they came to hear about the cancellation.

Devious Maids Season 3

Sabrina Wind, the executive producer, made it evident that the writers of Devious Maids had numerous ideas for Season 5. They had ideas about how to deal with Marisol’s disappearance. There were plans for an exciting story in the upcoming episodes of Devious Maids.

The Season 4 finale of Devious Maids ended with a shocking cliff-hanger. The finale was titled Grime and Punishment and it shows Rosie weighing in on the unsolved murder of Spence’s (Grant Show) ex-wife Peri Westmore (Marian Kalveno). Rosie opines that the same man who had drugged and raped Peri Westmore might be responsible.
