While there have been leaked images and video clips of him as The Joker in recent weeks, musician-actor Jared Leto appears to be the best kept secret of the upcoming movie “Suicide Squad.”
If the teases of Director David Ayer on social media are to be the basis, he is obviously giving preferential treatment to Jared Leto as the Clown Prince of Crime when it comes to character promotions.
He has made a lot of teases on his Twitter account beginning with the time when Jared Leto cut his hair short, removed the hair on his face, and then dying it blonde. Leto then took it from there to show on his Instagram account that he eventually dyed his hair to green.
In early May, Ayer posted a photo which he called as Task Force X showing all the characters of “Suicide Squad” minus Jared Leto as The Joker.
The photo showed Adam Beach as a still-unidentified character (rumored to be a villain named “Slipknot”), Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, and Jay Hernandez as El Diablo.
The team was pictured in front of a wall inscribed with “Welcome to Belle Reve,” which is the penitentiary where some of the deadliest villains of the DC Comics universe are imprisoned, details Digital Trends.
It was not clear if the unavailability of Leto was because he was not present during the photo shoot or it was perhaps intentional on the part of Ayer and the production team because they wanted to make The Joker as the best kept secret of the movie. According t reports from the set, Jared Leto as The Joker is so convincing that some of his fellow actors are even scared of him on some of the scenes.
However, there are also insinuations that The Joker is missing from the group photo because he is not a member of the “Suicide Squad” and will just serve as a supporting character in the plot. But that notion has yet to be confirmed by David Ayer or any from the production team because reports coming out are saying otherwise.
If things go well according to David Ayer’s character promotions plan and the projections of producers, then the movie might have the same silly and devious laugh as The Joker at the box-office when it hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
Cinema Blend meanwhile cited the extreme dedication that Jared Leto has put on The Joker character that many were saying that he has redefined excellence in the portrayal of the role.
Many certainly remember how the late actor Heath Ledger turned The Joker into a sadistic villain and earned him praises for setting the bar for the actors who shall take on the role in the future. So when Ledger died, he left very big shoes to fill in that most critics believe would be hard to come by.
Under pressure to deliver a performance that would actually meet the high standard that the late Heath Ledger has set forth for the role, Jared Leto did not only match it, he even surpassed it, based on recent reports of people who are privy to the filming of “Suicide Squad.”
Not only is Jared Leto very intense in his acting as The Joker in “Suicide Squad,” he was also utilizing method acting in taking on the role.
He took on the character like it was really him and even took the effort to look like The Joker by cutting his long hair, dying it from black to blonde and eventually to green, and wearing make-up and aesthetics that really make him look like a sadistic villain.
