Director James Gunn of “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” has confirmed last month that he has finished writing the first draft of the script of the upcoming sequel to last year’s surprise hit based on Marvel comics, “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
He said that he had worked 48 days straight without a day off to complete the first draft of the script. Although he later on admitted that he has written the story many months before, but the 48 days was for turning the written material into a script or screenplay for the movie.
Gunn said that the sequel will be more emotional than the first and he disclosed that “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” will introduce a new character in the person of Peter Quill’s father.
Peter Quill is Starlord and is the leader of the “Guardians of the Galaxy.” His character is played by actor Chris Pratt in a slightly comical way. But it seems that the sequel would be more serious compared to the first at it shall focus more on Peter finally finding out about the identity of his father.
The director, however, said that Peter’s father will not be the same as in the comic books. He says he finds the character in the comic unappealing so he shall be putting a twist on the attributes of Starlord’s father in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” notes the International Business Times.
It has also been reported that production for the movie will begin in February next year which would give them enough time before it is finally released to worldwide theaters on May 5, 2017.
While the main plot of the sequel has yet to be revealed, what is confirmed at this point is that the major characters will be back led by Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper (or his voice) as Rocket. It is not clear if Vin Diesel (or his voice) will return as Groot.
Chris Pratt will be very busy as a bee by the time filming of “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” starts as he is confirmed for at least two more blockbuster movies, notes Movie Pilot.
In addition to the filming of the “Jurassic World 2,” the actor shall also start working on “Indiana Jones 5.” It is not clear if he will take on the role of Harrison Ford as archeologist Dr. Indy Jones or he would come in either as a son or a protégé. But given that it is initially titled as “Indiana Jones 5,” the chances of Chris playing the son of Dr. Jones or his protégé are high.
“Jurassic World 2” is imperative for Chris Pratt as “Jurassic World” officially run away as the third highest-grossing movie of all time next only to “Avatar” and “Titanic.” It has dislodged “Marvel’s The Avengers” from third spot which the movie has been holding onto for more than three years already,
Big and small
During the recently-concluded Saturn Awards, Director Gunn was asked for updates on the sequel of the surprise Marvel hit last year.
Gunn said that “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” is a more emotional movie than the first, hinting that there might be some heartfelt moments in the film. But that would be very short-lived for sure given the comical nature of the characters of the Guardians.
Of course everyone wanted to know how Chris Pratt would highlight the film once again since he is fresh from the resounding success in the box office of “Jurassic World,” which has surely raised both his value as an actor and also his popularity and bankability.
