‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ Eyed for May 4, 2017 Release

Filming for the sequel to the successful box-office hit “Guardians of the Galaxy” last year has been set for early next year in time for its official release to worldwide theaters on May 4, 2017.

James Gunn, writer and director for “Guardians of the Galaxy,” disclosed via Twitter’s new-live streaming app Periscope details of the production details for “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.”

The series director has been keeping fans on the loop regarding the development of the sequel to the “Guardians of the Galaxy.” His latest announcement specifically mentioned that filming for the movie will begin in February 2016, reports Yahoo! News.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” has made a worldwide box-office haul of $774.1 million when it was released to theaters in August of last year.

Considering that “Guardians of the Galaxy” only plays second fiddle to the Avengers and other Marvel superheroes in the Marvel comics version, the box-office performance of the movie was really superb that even Marvel Studios and Disney Pictures were surprised.

New location

The first movie was filmed in a London studio. But “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” will be done at the Pinewood Atlanta Studio.

Reports have it that James Gunn is now working very hard to finish the screenwriting process towards the second half of the year. At the moment, the writer and director has already churned in 70 pages of the initial script of the movie.

While Gunn has yet to disclose any details, reports have it that he has given a robust treatment to the sequel with surprising twists and turns.

He has also met with Marvel Studio executives to discuss how they want the movie to come out and Gunn subsequently went back to his writing the working script format.

Leaked information about the details from the initial script already written by Gunn indicates that Michael Rooker’s Yondu character will be back. He should be since Star-Lord, played by Chris Pratt, pulled a major prank on him towards the end of the first film. Yondu would surely want some payback against the leader of the “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

Karen Gillian shall also reprise her role as Nebula but she might be able to keep her mane this time around.

There have been rumors that the movie shall also feature Rom: Space Knight but Gunn or anybody from Marvel Studios has yet to make an official statement to confirm or deny the report.
