It’s been a while since “The Elder Scrolls Online” first came out, and while the game was highly anticipated, it received some rather mixed responses overall. It seems like most fans were expecting something more as a whole, and the game was criticized for lacking the immersion factor that was so characteristic for the franchise, and so important for the success of previous installments.
However, Bethesda have been working hard to improve the overall quality of the game, and they’ve released a few patches that addressed some of the most common issues. And now, the company is preparing to release the first DLC pack for the online game, called “Imperial City”. It’s scheduled for release on August 31 for the PC and MAC, followed by the Xbox One on September 15 and PlayStation 4 on September 16.
This isn’t just any random DLC however, according to previews – it’s actually quite the extensive package, with several hours of new gameplay, and tons of new features. This includes new quests, enemies and possibly various additional locations where players will be able to take their characters.
There will also be some exclusive items for players who prefer to play on their own, without getting into large parties, as well as those who play in small groups. The exact nature of the items hasn’t been revealed, but players have been trying to guess what all this could be about. Some items will also apparently be aimed at players who like to play with large groups, on the other hand, so Bethesda are apparently looking to give something to all of their fans.
In the new DLC, we’re going to see the Imperial City – which is the heart of the Cyrodiilic Empire – having fallen to the Daedric Prince Molag Bal, and all three alliances must now fight against the Daedric forces along with each other. This will further complicate the political landscape of the game and make it an even more interesting experience for those who like to follow the lore and background developments.
Those who’ve subscribed to “The Elder Scrolls Online Plus” are going to get the new DLC immediately, while others will have to purchase it. Still, from what we can tell, it looks like it’s going to be a pretty solid offer for its price, and Bethesda have put a lot of work into the new content pack.
Meanwhile, after a 6-month delay, “The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited” was finally released on consoles last month, with gameplay close to that of the PC version, while it also added brand new content. The game is offered without any monthly subscription fee, and new players just have to pay a one-time purchase fee of $20 before they can continue playing without any limitations.
Players exploring the new DLC should be careful about Molag Bal’s monsters which will be spread out all through the districts and sewers, but they must also look out for groups of players from their rival factions, as these inter-faction wars are now going to become even more prominent than ever before.
It looks like developing a strong character will be critical for players who want to progress in the new DLC, much more than it was for players in the ordinary game. Because of this, the dynamics of the gameplay might change somewhat, making the game more skill-based and exciting for those who like to explore high-powered builds with a lot of efficiency, as well as those who like to invest a lot of time in the game.
