Bad Boys 3 Could Be Delayed: Director Dropped

Yes, we know that you simply cannot wait for the third part of this popular franchise, but according to the news we’ve got, it seems that you’ll have to wait a little bit longer for it.

Even though superheroes and vigilantes seem to be taking over the world of cinema, sometimes all you really want to see is a pair of truly badass cops. Which is exactly why we cannot wait for this action-packed thriller to arrive in theaters.

As far as the plot goes, details are still under wraps, Sony is keeping everything super-secret this time, so here’s what we know.

Bad Boys 3 is reuniting Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, as loose-cannon Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, the family man. Freewheeling Miami narcotics detectives who got us hooked in the wildly successful parts one and two of this franchise (1995 and 2003) will be back without a hint of doubt.

We can count on this team to deliver laughs and chaos. As far as the film’s villain goes, all we got so far, is that he is not a puppet master type who likes to manipulate events from the dark, he is more of a hands-on kind of a guy, who has no problem with getting in on the action and getting his hands dirty.

The first film, which was produced by the late Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer has earned more than $140 million worldwide and made a star out of Will Smith. Bad Boys II grossed even more than that, cashing in over $270 million worldwide.

The studio has been trying to make a third installment for years, and just as we thought it is a done deal, and that we will soon be watching Bad Boys For Life soon, problems started showing up at every corner.

First, we heard that Michael Bay who was at the helm of first two movies will not direct. Then we heard that he was replaced by Joe Carnahan, and we sighed with relief.

Then came the delays.

The first delay was allegedly due to Will Smith’s involvement in Disney’s upcoming live-action Dumbo, that will be directed by Tim Burton. Even though Smith hadn’t officially committed to Dumbo, the production schedules for these two films clashed, and we are guessing that Smith chose to do Dumbo first.

Originally, Bad Boys For Life was set for a 2017 release, before Sony put it back, and then back again.

Seems that this movie cannot catch a break, as they hit another major problem. The film has lost its director Joe Carnahan, who is linked with the X-Force movie and the US remake of The Raid. Carnahan had been linked to this Bad Boys sequel for a long time, and he had also penned the screenplay to it as well.

Now, his departure from Bad Boys For Life is official, although it is unclear if it’s a scheduling problem, or the matter was in creative differences.  Carnahan is known for leaving big projects half way through. He left Mission Impossible III because he wanted to do a punk-rock version, and also the remake of Death Wish.

So, the hunt for a new director for this movie is in progress.

When you’re making a movie, every little thing can mess up your plans and influence your success. You see, the game of release dates is a tricky one. On one hand, studios love making line-ups of impressive titles 5 years in advance, so that they show everyone that they are keeping themselves busy. Sadly, this practice sometimes backfires. If a movie needs more time to come together, schedule changes can sink the movie even before it hits the box office.

bad boys 3Which is why we are wondering what is going on with Bad Boys For Life, the third part of the Bad Boys franchise – it just got a 10-month delay, while the fourth part, that was allegedly also in the works, had apparently fallen off the schedule completely.

Ok, they had a problem with directors, they had problems with actors, but, if nothing is going according to plan, why is Sony encouraging the hype?

According to the latest news, Bad Boys For Life will hit theaters on November 8, 2018, instead of January 12, 2018. And, another disappointment – Bad Boys 4, which was set for May 24, 2019, now has no release date at all!

Seems that (if it arrives at all) the third entry of this series will be the last one, so we hope it’s really good!

More news, as soon as we get them.
