The 12th episode of Season 4 of the American superhero drama TV series “Arrow” on The CW that aired on February 4 was sort of a reunion episode for major characters in the show.
It was actually the episode where the Arsenal a.k.a. Roy Harper, played by Colton Haynes, made his return to “Arrow,” though unwillingly it seems, and eventually saw his reunion with Thea Queen a.k.a. Speedy, played by Willa Holland.
Apparently Roy Harper was being blackmailed by a hacktivist known as The Calculator, played by Tom Amandes.
Team Arrow actually caught Roy trying to steal stuff for The Calculator and the Green Arrow a.k.a. Oliver Queen, played by Stephen Amell, shoots him with an arrow to bring him down, details Forbes.
However, Roy’s presence only makes Thea’s conditions worse. She has been deteriorating rapidly now that she has stopped killing, which is a must for people who were raised from the dead via the Lazarus Pit at Nanda Parbat.
Although his exit from “Arrow” during Season 3 was perfect as he took the fall for Oliver Queen by taking the credit as the Arrow, his return to the TV series was a bit of a letdown, according to some critics.
But for most fans, the return of Roy Harper was quite cool as he is one of the fan-favorite characters of “Arrow” since Season 2.
Hacker vs. hacker
When Roy was caught by Team Arrow, he did a tell-all on who was making him do force servitude. That’s when Felicity Smoak, played by Emily Bett Rickards, did her thing as she went up against The Calculator in what was to be a battle of hackers using the keyboards of their respective computers.
As expected, Felicity overwhelmed The Calculator during their battle, although Team Arrow has yet to nail down the mysterious menace in person. The Calculator also feels that his battle with Felicity via the wires was far from over, notes TV Line.
When Felicity Smoak subsequently made a rousing presentation to the Palmer Tech board, she came face-to-face with The Calculator’s public persona, Noah Cutler, who turned out to be her father.
Since it appears that they do not know that they went up against each other during the previous episode via the wires, it is likely that Felicity will have a round two hacking tiff with Papa Smoak or The Calculator via the wires and their computers. It would be interesting how everything would end up but it is likely that Felicity will prove to be an overmatch against her father.
Showrunner Wendy Mericle did not disclose how long Tom Amandes will be playing as a guest star in Season 4 of “Arrow” but he is definitely good for at least two episodes including the past week’s 12th episode and the upcoming episode 13 to air on The CW on February 11.
Keeping tabs from afar
Felicity appears to have a hint that her father is actually The Calculator. In the same manner, it seems that Noah Cutler knows who her daughter is and her role in Team Arrow too.
In fact, Noah told Felicity that he has been keeping tabs on her, claiming that he is doing it from afar. He even disclosed that he was actually there when she graduated from high school.
Since Donna Smoak, played by Charlotte Ross, is almost a series regular in “Arrow,” it would be interesting how she would play out with Felicity learning about her father.
But knowing her character, Donna will be very clever. She knows who Noah is and what he is capable of and she would definitely want nothing to do with him. It is possible that she would also ask Felicity to do the same and the conflict in the drama would be Felicity not heeding her mother’s advice.
