Spotting “Half-Life 3” in the wild has become something of a common occurrence for the industry, and many gamers have learned to just ignore these events unless Valve themselves have said something – which happens quite rarely when it comes to “Half-Life 3”. Recently, an interesting entry was seen in SteamDB, reportedly tied to the legendary game – according to reports, the Steam Application with ID 323900 is indeed “Half-Life 3”, and the game even had the official logo briefly uploaded to its entry.
While the logo was subsequently removed, Valve have naturally not made any comments on the situation, or on “Half-Life 3” in general. The most prominent rumors about the game’s possible announcement right now are pointing at “The International 5”, the world competition for “Dota 2”, where Gab Newell is expected to make the major announcement. However, this is so far just a rumor without any official basis, so fans should probably not get overly excited for the game just yet.
Meanwhile, a more interesting theory about the game has made its way to the Internet. According to it, the situation with “Half-Life 3” has made Valve realize that they need a more unusual approach to the game’s announcement if they want to make the long wait worthwhile. According to the most recent interesting theory, Valve are actually holding off on the announcement because of the community itself. If the rumor is true, the company is waiting for their own fans to come up with the best, most interesting theory about the game yet, before they will announce it themselves.
While this might sound too far-fetched, especially considering that this is an actual business product, it also wouldn’t be that strange given Valve’s previous experiments with some of their games, and the company’s general position in the industry. They can realistically afford to play with their ideas quite a lot, so if they wanted to try out something like that for “Half-Life 3”, they very well could – they could even go farther.
There are plenty of events coming up in 2015 that could be great opportunities for Valve to announce the game, so it’s hard to even speculate on when the big revelation might happen. One thing is clear though – whenever Valve decide to reveal that “Half-Life 3” is coming, the Internet is going to remember that day. Kim Kardashian may have failed to break the Internet as she was boldly proclaiming, but this event might very well cause some websites to explode with activity. Let’s just hope that the hype will be justified with a sufficiently good game in the end as well.
