Zayn Malik believes he made the right decision to quit One Direction because he now feels in control of his life.
The only regret he had for his decision is that he had let fans of the British boy band down to some extent. Zayn disclosed that he has been doing something for quite some time that he was not happy about, obviously referring to being part of 1D. He added that he was only doing it for other people, for the millions of fans of the band in particular.
In his first official statement following his formal departure from One Direction just a few days ago, Zayn told a British newspaper that he feels that what he has done is right.
He explained that he has never felt more in control of his life. The 22-year-old singer also said that with his decision to part ways with the band, he felt that he did something that was right, right by himself, and right by his former band mates, so he feels good.
Zayn said that there has been no tension or bad blood between him and the other band members namely Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson, about his departure from the group.
Possibility of return
When he was asked about the possibility of him returning to One Direction, Zayn said that he feels very interesting about it, describing it as wild and also a bit mad. He eventually responded to the question by saying that he can’t really answer that at this time and he also does not know what the future holds for him and the band.
He also added that he just wants to be himself for a bit, which somehow offered a glimpse of the possibility of reuniting with 1D.
Though he admitted that he has been very unhappy for a while doing something that does not suit him or what he really wants for himself, which is the reason why he is unlikey to return and reunite with his former band.
Not turning his back
Zayn said that while it appeared that he has turned his back on his fans with his decision, he is just asking for their understanding because he simply cannot continue doing things that was no longer real to him.
He said that he is happy that the band has been really supportive of him and was really very cool about his decision because they all understand what he was going through in doing something that he is no longer happy about.
Zayn said that the boys, referring to his former bandmates, still want to do it for a while so they are going to do what they want to do. He feels that the band can go on without him and believes that One Direction will continue to be cool, particularly for its millions of fans around the world.
