Olivia Munn becomes the latest addition to the growing list of talented young actors in the next X-Men movie officially titled “X-Men: Apocalypse.”
The 34-year-old Munn shall play the role of Betsy Braddock who is also known as the mutant Psylocke.
Just like the entry of past cast members to the film, Director Bryan Singer made the announcement on the latest casting addition to “X-Men: Apocalypse” via his Instagram account.
On April 13, Singer posted on his Instagram that he was excited to welcome in “X-Men; Apocalypse” Olivia Munn who shall be taking on the role of Betsy Braddock, also known as Psylocke.
A few weeks ago, Director Singer also announced the addition of Lana Conor to the movie where she will play the role of Jubilee.
Third film in a trilogy
Due to hit the theaters on May 27, 2016, “X-Men: Apocalypse” is the concluding third film in a trilogy that includes the “X-Men: First Class” shown in 2011 and the “X-Men: Days of the Future Past” released in 2014.
Just like its two predecessors, “X-Men: Apocalypse” is touted to become a big blockbuster considering the already huge and still growing fan-base of the series.
From the business standpoint, a producer would surely not let a very successful franchise go quietly into the night just like that. That is the reason why Fox is almost moving heaven and earth to make sure that it gets to retain most, if not all, of the series’ main characters.
Rumors have it that Fox is already looking forward to having another X-Men movie even after “X-Men: Apocalypse.” With these things in mind, the production company has already started contemplating on re-signing some of its key stars for the future movie about the X-Men.
A-List casting
In February, Director Singer also announced the inclusion of Smit-McPhee in “X-Men: Apocalypse” as Nightcrawler. McPhee’s entry was announced after the Director also posted that there will be three additions to the cast including Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, and Tye Sheridan as Cyclops,
Turner, Shipp and Sheridan will be playing the younger versions of the hero mutants previously played in early X-Men movies by Famke Janssen, Halle Berry, and James Marsden, respectively.
Smit-McPhee on the other hand will be playing the younger version of Nightcrawler that was previously played by Allan Cummings on “X-Men 2.”
The actors who were confirmed for the casting of “X-Men: Apocalypse” were actually younger versions of the mutants that appeared in previous X-Men films.
There’s Jennifer Lawrence who shall be playing the role of form-changing Raven also known as Mystique, Evan Peters as Quicksilver and Peter if he’s not mutating, Chaning Tatum as the card-carrying mutant known as Gambit and Remy LeBeau if he’s not in his extra ordinary self, Michael Fassbender as Magneto or Erik Lensherr if he’s not in his mutant form, James McAvoy as Charles Xavier also known as Professor X, and Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy or the mutant Beast when he changes form.
Oscar Isaac will be playing the role of En Sabah Nur who is also the mutant Apocalypse, the foremost villain of the movie.
