X-Men: Apocalypse Described as the Biggest X-Men Movie to Date!

Counting the two movies on Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman, there have been a total of seven X-Men movies in the past and the upcoming “X-Men: Apocalypse,” to hit theaters on May 27 next year, will be the eighth.

It shall also be the final movie of the trilogy that started with the “X-Men: First Class” followed by “X-Men: Days of the Future Past” shown last year.

More than anything, the producers, the creative team, and some of the actors currently working on the movie described it as the biggest X-Men movie to date, and it appears that the studio is doing everything it can to make sure that it comes out that way, reports Screen Rant.

The series obviously wants to build on the momentum of the record-breaking success of “X-Men: Days of the Future Past” that feature a massive and star-studded ensemble cast and was also critically praised.

Now on post-production phase

In a recent interview, Simon Kinberg, producer and writer of “X-Men: Apocalypse,” disclosed that the movie is through with filming and is now on post-production phase.

He hinted that the film delivers on the dramatic story and emotion of the last two movies, referring to “X-Men: First Class” shown in 2011 and “X-Men: Days of the Future Past” released last year.

Kinberg said that “X-Men: Apocalypse” felt like the culmination of the four main characters James McAvoy, who plays Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender, who plays Magneto, Nic Hoult, who plays the Beast, and Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Mystique.

He also confirmed that it is a bigger movie in both physical scale and emotional stakes because of the culmination of the mini-trilogy of stories, cites iO9.

True birth of the X-Men

Director Bryan Singer refers to the “X-Men: Apocalypse” as the true birth of the X-Men because it introduces new and younger version of many key and original characters including the likes of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, among others.

While it have been previously reported that “X-Men: Apocalypse” will be the last of the X-Men movies, it seems that it would not turn out that way as the studio is now working on a new movie for the future called “The New Mutants.”

That is in addition to confirmed films featuring X-Men characters including “Deadpool” hitting cinemas on February 12, 2016, “Gambit” showing on October 7, 2016, “Wolverine 3” showing on March 3, 2017, and “The New Mutants” showing on July 13, 2018.

Apocalypse and his four horsemen

The four horsemen of the Apocalypse in the bible’s book of Revelations symbolize conquest, war, famine, and death, considered as the harbingers of the last judgment, or end of the world to some.

However, in the Marvel universe of the X-Men, Apocalypse is a villain mutant who will be going up against a band of good mutants. But the villainous mutant will not be taking everybody by his lonesome, as he shall reportedly have some cohorts with him to spread his evil ways.

In the movie “X-Men: Apocalypse,” the big bad villain shall have for a cohort, the mutant Caliban, who has mutant-locator powers similar to Professor X’s Cerebro device in the past “X-Men” movies.

It would seem like Caliban will use his powers to locate and recruit other mutants to the cause of Apocalypse, the same way that Magneto did in past “X-Men” films.

Whenever the mutant Caliban is mentioned, his name is always associated with the Morlocks, which are mutants who live in hiding, forming an underground community.

X-Men: Apocalypse

The Morlocks first appeared in “X-Men: The Last Stand” where their leader Callisto, played by Dania Ramirez, also had the mutant-locating powers of Caliban.

In the Marvel Comics, Caliban’s strange looks and his mutant-locating ability helped Callisto formed the Morlocks for others like them.
