Winona Ryder Confirms ‘Beetlejuice 2,’ Almost Three Decades after the First Movie!

Some 27 years after the showing of the American horror comedy fantasy film “Bettlejuice” shown in 1988 with Michael Keaton in the lead role, talks are now getting louder and louder that a sequel will be happening very soon.

Winona Ryder, who was in the first movie directed by Tim Burton as a then sweet 16-year-old actress, recently reveals that the sequel to “Beetlejuice” is already in the pipeline and filming would likely start sometime soon, reports the Huffington Post.

Winona played the role of Lydia Deetz on “Beetlejuice” to whom Beetlejuice, the rambunctious spirit who was called upon by ghost couple Adam and Barbara Maitland (played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) to scare away the Deetzes from their home.

Lydia has an unbearable mother in Delia played by Catherine O’Hara and a lameduck father played by Jeffrey Jones.

As the story unravelled, “Beetlejuice” turned out to be a free and an uncontrollable spirit which put the life of Lydia in great danger that Adam and Barbara Maitland decided to do something to send him back to where he came from.

Early talk of the sequel

As early as 2013, the sequel of “Bettlejuice” has been talked about and the only major issue that needs to be settled and answered then is whether Tim Burton is willing to come in again and direct “Beetlejuice 2.”

It seems likely that Tim Burton agreed to helm the movie because in December 2014, he let loose of the information that “Beetllejuice 2” is becoming closer than ever, hinting that the movie was no longer a plan but is already in a pre-production stage.

In an interview during the ongoing 2015 Sundance Film Festival at Park City, Utah, Winona said that “Beetlejuice 2” is indeed going to happen. Winona was interviewed with co-actor Peter Sarsgaard for the Sundance Film Festival entry “Experimenter,” which tells the story about the infamous experiments of psychologist Stanley Milgram.

Enough to get fans excited

The 43-year-old actress did not mention any other specifics about “Beetlejuice 2” except for saying that the movie is clearly going to happen and that Tim Burton shall be directing it.

That was enough to get of “Beetlejuice” fans excited, especially the so-called post-New Wave generation of the 80s when the movie was shown.

Ryder also did not mention whether she will be in the sequel of the horror fantasy comedy movie or not of whether Michael Keaton, Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin or Catherine O’Hara will be back again to reprise their roles.

It would look weird for a ghost couple like Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin to age considering that they’re ghosts and are already dead; or if Michael Keaton as the mischievous ghost, also ages in the sequel.

Until an official announcement on the movie is made, this information must be taken with lowered level of excitement, to say the least.
