Wayward Pines Season 2 to Amp Up its Suspense Levels When it Returns This Summer, Confirms Fox Network Boss!

Season 2 of the American mystery science-fiction thriller drama TV series “Wayward Pines” based on “The Wayward Pines Trilogy” by Blake Crouch, has been confirmed to air this coming summer on Fox.

No less than Fox Broadcasting Company president David Madden confirmed the green lighting of the second season of “Wayward Pines,” whose excellent story was courtesy of critically-acclaimed director M. Night Shyamalan, who is also the showrunner for the TV series.

In a recent statement, Madden said that “Wayward Pines” has been a huge hit for the Fox network last summer and that they were absolutely blown away by the mysterious and surprising world that M. Night Shyamalan and his team created. He added that the twisting-and-turning storytelling really drew viewers to the TV series right from Day One, details the Christian Post.

Madden also confirmed that Season 2 of “Wayward Pines” will definitely up its suspense levels and the story will pick up from where the Season 1 finale left off.

The first season of “Wayward Pines” had a 10-episode run last year beginning on May 14 and ended on July 23, 2015.

Mysterious disappearance

Matt Dillon stars as US Secret Service agent Ethan Burke in “Wayward Pines.” He is investigating the disappearance of two fellow agents in the mysterious small town of Wayward Pines in Idaho.

Ethan awakens from a car accident but was unable to contact the outside world. He cannot leave either. He eventually finds one of the agents dead and the other, his former lover Kate Hewson, played by Carla Gugino, settled down in the seemingly idyllic town.

He eventually discovered for himself that the inhabitants of Wayward Pines are trapped there by a set of rules enforced by the strict Sheriff Arnold Pope, played by Terrence Howard, and any attempt to escape is punished by a public execution which they call as ‘reckoning.’

And that’s where Ethan works to uncover the truth and he had to make hard choices to be able to survive and save the other inhabitants of Wayward Pines.

According to speculations, while Sheriff Pope would push to preserve their endangered race, there would be a rebellion at “Wayward Pines” in Season 2.

A clear-cut ending

Director M. Night Shyamalan is a master of the cliffhanger. He has made several films in the past that left the viewers to eventually find the answers to their questions themselves towards the last scenes without really explaining.

The series finale of Season 1 of “Wayward Pines” also had the same kind of twisted ending, that left audiences to wonder whether there will be a Season 2 of the show or no longer because at the time of the Season 1 finale, Fox has yet to decide whether to renew the show for a second season or not.

M. Night Shyamalan explained then that he likes that Season 1 gave audiences a clear-cut ending while noting that he and Blake Crouch already have an idea of what they intend to do for Season 2 of the show if it was greenlit, notes Cinema Blend.

The director and executive producer added that he does not want to reveal any information yet. “Wayward Pines” ultimately came from delivering several twists that were both exciting and over-the-top.

During the Season 1 finale, Ethan finally gave town creator and scientist David Pilcher, played by Toby Jones, what he deserved. Ethan killed him trying to protect the townspeople in a vivid scene that involved getting blown up in an elevator.

But the show left things wide open when Ethan’s son Ben, played by Charlie Tahan, woke up to a town run by the First Generation kids that pretty much reset “Wayward Pines” into the fear state that it began under Pilcher’s rule.

Because of that ending, critics felt that it was hard to tell if Season 2 of “Wayward Pines” will pick up where Season 1 left off or go somewhere else in the universe entirely.
