‘Transformers 5’ Likely to Follow the Box-Office Success of ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’

Paramount Pictures International SVP Edward Ryan promised during the CineEurope conference held in Spain on June 2014 that “Transformers 4” will have a sequel in 2016. However, latest developments in production might push the release date of “Transformers 5” to 2017, according to Christian Today. After the rumors on the upcoming sequel started to circulate, the film became a popular topic among movie fans on the internet.

Although the last film of the series, “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” did not receive good responses from movie critics, it still became a huge blockbuster success, earning more than $1.1 billion in box office sales in 2014. The movie is listed in Box Office Mojo as the highest-grossing film of 2014. With the movie’s success, fans are looking forward to a sequel, and as promised by Paramount Pictures, the new “Transformers” movie will be in production soon. There is a big chance that the fifth installment will follow the huge success of “Transformers: Age of Extinction.”

As the rumored release date of the movie approaches, more details regarding “Transformers 5” are coming out. Mark Wahlberg personally revealed in an interview with MTV last December 2014 that he will return in the movie’s sequel. He is one of the first ones to confirm his participation in the in the upcoming “Transformers 5″ movie. However, it is not clear whether a reunion will take place between Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox in the fifth installment of the movie franchise.

According to Inquisitr, Megan Fox spoke to Moviepilot and stated that she is still open on working with LaBeouf in the film, but she is not yet sure if she will be included in the “Transformers 5.” Megan said that she is not sure if she’ll return, but as long as things are good between everyone, and Shia returns with her, she would really like to see the two of them partner again with the new cast members like a crossover or something.

During the fourth installment of “Transformers,” Steven Spielberg removed Fox from the cast as she had a dispute with Michael Bay, the director of the film. However, after Bay, as executive producer, included Fox in the“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” reboot movie in 2014, it seemed like the issue between them is already a matter of the past.

Last January, it was announced that Bay is officially out from the fifth installment of “Transformers” and would be replaced by Jonathan Liebesman, director of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” Bay would be happy enough if he can produce the film, according to Inquisitr. Nevertheless, his return is much awaited and after Wahlberg’s interview with Collider, it was clear that chances of having Bay back in the upcoming installment of “Transformers” is very high, according to reports.

During the same interview, Wahlberg said that he and Michael Bay will probably get together after their busy shooting schedules. Bay is in Malta shooting a Benghazi drama while Wahlberg is in new Orleans shooting the movie “Deepwater.”

Despite the rumors swirling around that Bay is out, it seems the director will continue working with the next “Transformers” film. Currently, Bay is busy with “13 Hours,” a Benghazi drama about war so Paramount might be delaying the “Transformers” production until Bay is free to start filming the fifth installment.

In addition to Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, and Bruce Willis might join the cast as well according to rumors. Although there is no confirmation yet, the two may be included in the cast as voice actors or human characters. If Johnson will push through, it will be a reunion for him, Bay and Wahlberg as they also worked together in “Pain and Gain.” Having actors associated with action films in the cast, the “Transformers 5” might even become a crossover between robots and “G.I. Joe.”
