Finally, after a long wait – at least from the point of view of dedicated fans – the trailer for the third installment in the “Insidious” series has arrived. The new film is planned as a prequel to the original “Insidious” and its follow-up, “Insidious: Chapter 2”. So far, we know that Rose Byrne, Patrick Wilson and Ty Simpkins will not be coming back in their original roles as the Lambert family, although we’ll still get to see Lin Shaye in the role of Elise Rainier, the paranormal investigator.
Among those who’ll return, we’ll also see Angus Sampson and Leigh Whannell, the creator of the franchise – they’ll be reprising their original roles as Tucker and Specs, the paranormal investigators, respectively. Joining them we’ll also see Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott, who are new additions to the cast. Fans have been particularly excited by the announcement that Stefanie Scott will be playing, as she already has a significant fan following from her roles on the Disney Channel.
Leigh Whannell was on the writing staff for the first two films, and he’ll now be making his debut as a director for the third installment, while also being responsible for the script himself. We’ve seen a teaser for the plot of the new film along with the trailer too, saying that Elise Rainier will agree somewhat reluctantly to use her special skill – contacting the dead – to help out a teenage girl, Stefanie Scott, who is currently being terrorized by a malicious entity from another world.
The trailer has so far generated some very positive responses, both among fans of the films as well as critics in the industry, and most seem to agree that the new production is going to be worth watching for those who found the first two films good. There are still a few months to go until “Insidious: Chapter 3” hits the screen, as it’s scheduled for release on June 5, so we’ll probably get to see a few other teasers and revelations about it until then.
There are certainly lots of rumors about the new film right now, and activity in that area has gotten even stronger ever since the trailer was released, but we can’t tell for sure which of the rumors are to be trusted. Some are actually claiming some quite interesting things, including some specific links between the new film and the previous ones. It makes sense that the producers would want to hide interesting details in the story considering that it’s a prequel, but we’ll have to wait until the film has been released to see exactly how deep the connection between it and the others will be.
