You heard that right. The upcoming 16th episode of Season 7 of the American supernatural drama TV series “The Vampire Diaries” will air on The CW on April 1 and based on its title, it seems like the show will take after the second film of the latest “X-Men” trilogy.
Episode 16 will have the title “Days of the Future Past” and those who know their film history, it is actually the title of the second movie of the latest “X-Men” trilogy that was shown in 2014. But the episode will be aired after the show’s three-week hiatus on The CW.
While there will be no X-Men appearing in the upcoming episode of “The Vampire Diaries,” vampire huntress Rayna will be putting the pressure on Stefan to give up his brother.
The trailer of episode 16 showed Rayna telling Stefan how he can escape death by transferring his mark to someone more deserving, referring of course to Damon, reports Movie News Guide.
Damon and Valerie are also trying to get to the airport before Rayna breaks Stefan. The preview also hinted of the possibility that Stefan might agree to Rayna’s plan because of the excessive pain that he has been getting.
However, Damon is having second thoughts about taking the mark from Stefan because he has an alternative plan to solve the problem.
It also seems that Valerie would help Damon execute his plans against Rayna and save his brother. If Rayna dies, all the victims who carry the mark would also die. So Valerie will get a spell that could immobilize Rayna and she will no longer be in danger to others. But she needs to be alive to keep her victims alive.
Some delicious drama
Episode 15 of Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries” was aired on March 4 on The CW entitled “I Would For You” and showed Stefan and Valerie pursuing an herb that can hide them from Rayna.
It was also the episode where Bonnie makes a discovery that thwarts Damon’s plan to take down Rayna for good.
It is also the episode where Stefan questions his future with Caroline and thus end the ‘Steroline’ relationship once and for all. Matt also decides that it may be time take a real stand against vampires.
It was a mediocre episode at the beginning but as soon as Damon makes his decision to take down Rayna, the episode suddenly becomes something great, which critics even consider as the best in the whole season in an emotional sense, notes the Den of Geek.
The real moments of the episode came from Alaric and Bonnie, Damon’s drinking buddies, and the people who arguably love him the most.
But Damon is not used to anyone other than Elena and Stefan caring enough to miss him, and sadly his mind was made up long before Bonnie tracked him down and delivered one of the most heartbreaking monologues in the show’s history.
Bonnie and Caroline have been living with their respective betrayals for three full years. Their anger at the Salvatore brothers makes complete sense now, and the biggest question about the present storylines is whether those bridges can be rebuilt. The delicious drama of the two characters completely overshadows the plotline on Rayna.
The show’s new bright spot
Fans of “The Vampire Diaries” have stated in the past that the show has lost its sting when the Mikaelsons left and came up with their own spinoff TV series “The Originals” three years ago.
Then last year, after the Season 6 finale, Nina Dobrev decided that it was time for her to move on from the show so along with her departure, her character Elena Gilbert was put on a very long sleep.
For a while, the early goings of the current seventh season of “The Vampire Diaries” were teetering on edges given that it has lost its key protagonist but over time, it eventually got its bearing and groove back as Damon and Stefan Salvatore, played by Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, respectively, finally wrested control of the show that was theirs in the first place.
