From the instant that Donald Trump got elected as the President OF the United States, the prospects for birth control’s survival were looking very doubtful. Still even after he signed the executive order against the Affordable Care Act that needed insurance companies to pay for contraceptive without copays or deductibles.
Or when Congress started to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, no one was sure as to what will take its place. However, after the address of Budget Chair Diane Black things started to get clearer., and the ultimate prognosis was that birth control is in trouble.
She had told that the birth control is not part of “our program,” at the press conference when she was questioned about contraceptives being covered for as preventative care below employer-sponsored health plans.
She defended this decision by insisting that people can go to other clinics. Something like this has been said by the Republicans before as well in their defense of defunding Planned Parenthood, though as one journalist pointed out, finding a clinic isn’t relevant to this issue.
According to Rewire, even before the new Republican health plan sets in, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services could abolish the right to free contraceptives by altering their status as preventative care. Stay tuned to us for more updates.
