“The Originals” has had three novel adaptations, with the first released in January. The first novel, titled “The Originals: The Rise” follows the Miakelsons in their belief they have escaped their past. The three family members arrive in New Orleans only to feel highly unwelcomed by the witches and werewolves who claim to be ruling the city. The conflicting romantic relationships of Klaus and Rebekkah with characters important to the plot ensure intriguing twists in the novel.
The second novel “The Loss” was released in March, and it follows the events after a desolating hurricane that forced the Mikaelsons to rebuild New Orleans. Set in 1776, the conflicts between the Mikaelsons and the witches and werewolves have ended. However, Klaus’ desire for more power allows a witch to use him for a curse and unleash her ancestors, who then engage in the battle for New Orleans.
The last novel, titled “The Originals: The Resurrection” was released in May and it again follows the theme of territory battle between the werewolves and the vampires. In the novel, the battle for power leaves Klaus alone as Rebekkah moves away from his side to find a home for herself, and Elijah becomes preoccupied with a new female character. However, the family has to reunite as the battle in New Orleans takes on larger proportions.
“The Originals” Season 3 will bring more characters and enemies into the plot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new series will focus on exploring sire lines and sibling relationships. The vampire bloodline will receive focus, as the plot will include battles among vampires themselves. Main cast members will include Joseph Morgan as Klaus Mikaelson, Daniel Gillies as Elijah, Claire Holt as Rebekah, Charles Michael Davis as Marcel, and others.
