While most gamers are still waiting for the arrival of the action-adventure video game “The Legend of Zelda” on the Wii U Gamepad, Nintendo pulled a surprise recently by launching the “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD” on its current generation gaming console, the 3DS.
“The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess” was launched in 2006 in the Nintendo GameCube and its HD version in the 3DS is actually a marvelous graphical update.
While the game does not always manage to look slick, but when it does, it is clearly a great example of how a new coat of paint can bring back the magic of a classic “The Legend of Zelda” game, details IGN.
Considering that “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess” still holds up well after 10 years is a clear testament to the game’s ambitious scale, its memorable set pieces, and its finely-tuned dungeon puzzles.
Gamers also find the labyrinthine dungeons in “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess” as the best in the series. Although the dungeons themselves are the game’s major highlights, the overworld and the towns around it do not get the same attention because they really feel empty.
However, “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD” also has its fair share of flaws. Though the game presents one of the largest incarnations of Hyrule field in the series with nice, long draw distances, packs of enemies are spread out rather thinly across it which does not give gamers plenty of reasons to explore it outside of a handful of secrets.
It was the same problem of the original game on GameCube so it means that Nintendo has not remedied it at all. The same problem can be noted about the bustling Hyrule Castle, which has a large space full of citizens but few of them offer any appealing distractions from the main campaign.
Memorable launching
What made the launching of “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess” on GameCube really meaningful back in 2006 is the fact that it was launched alongside the Wii.
Back then, the experience of playing through “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess” with Wiimote in hand instead of the GameCube version, was indeed a powerful way for Nintendo to introduce its new motion-sensing hardware then, notes Polygon.
“The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD” still does not have the distracting zeitgeist of a hardware launch to accompany it so much that its flaws have become more pronounced. The game lays bare the decade-old original game but in doing so, gives it an identity beyond gimmicks.
Overall, “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD” presents the original game with exacting clarity. Despite its flaws, the game is also strange, bold, and exciting. The game is about as straightforward as remakes come but it finally presents the gaming picture with exacting clarity that was not that clear when it was first introduced to the GameCube 10 years ago.
Finally coming out this year?
Meanwhile, sometime in January this year, there were reports that came out saying that the “The Legend of Zelda” on Wii U is unlikely to be released this year because a new game called “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD” will be released instead on the Nintendo gaming console.
It was widely speculated that the earliest that “The Legend of Zelda” could come out on Wii U is in 2017.
However, it seems that there is a new development that was recently revealed by Nintendo officials who hinted that “The Legend of Zelda” on Wii U will actually come out this year.
