Game developer Naughty Dog is all set to release exclusively on the PlayStation 4 the third-person shooter video game “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” on April 26. After the official release of the game, the developer plans to release a single-player DLC version of “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” which would likely come out before the end of the year.
After the “Uncharted 4” DLC, Naughty Dog will focus on the development of the sequel to its action survival horror game “The Last of Us” and possibly launched the game during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2017.
Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann has recently provided a more specific timeline for “The Last of Us 2.”
He explained that before he and Bruce Straley started working on “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,” they already began working on prototypes for different ideas within “The Last of Us” universe. But they had to put the prototypes on hold because they had to focus on “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,” details Movie News Guide.
Since the game is about to come out on the PlayStation 4, Druckmann disclosed that their focus right now is to create the single-player DLC for “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.”
Once they are through with the DLC, his team can eventually focus their resources and resurrect the prototypes for “The Last of Us 2.”
Just the confirmation is enough
For the avid fans and gamers of “The Last of Us,” the mere fact that Naughty Dog has already confirmed the development of its sequel already makes them happy and excited.
At the moment, the development of “The Last of Us 2” is at its early stages so it is unlikely to be released anytime soon, cites the Ecumenical News.
If Naughty Dog is able to come up with a gameplay of “The Last of Us 2” at next year’s E3, then it is possible that it could be released before the end of 2017. Or it is also possible that Naughty Dog will take its sweet time to further harness the game and release the game in 2018.
Indicative of the huge gamer anticipation and excitement to the sequel of the 2013 hit game, there has been plenty of rumors and speculations about the video game on the internet particularly its characters and gameplay.
However, all these remain as speculation until Naughty Dog either makes the confirmation or denial to these rumors.
A prequel to the original game
One of the more interesting latest rumors about “The Last of Us 2” is that it is going to be a prequel to the original game so much so that it shall be titled “Days Gone.”
From previous speculations that “The Last of Us 2” shall only feature Ellie and no longer Joel, there are now reports saying that it is also possible that the two will not be featured in the upcoming game since it is going to be a prequel, as such they will not be part of the film.
In fact, there are some gamers who believe that the journey of Joel and Ellie came to a perfect end in the first game. But there are also others who think that there are more stories to tell with the two characters around.
Those who made the disclosure that “The Last of Us 2” is going to be a prequel of “The Last of Us” were supported by reports that the game will feature Marlene as she journeys towards becoming the leader of The Fireflies.
In addition, there are also reports saying that the next installment of the game shall also feature the journey of Tommy, who happens to be the brother of Joel.
But if it is up to fans and gamers, they would rather see the next game picking up from where it left off at the end of the first game and continue playing through the journey of Joel and Ellie.

if they were to do the next journey as a prequel with Ellie as the main protagonist then how could it possible work? We all saw Ellie grow as a independent character in the last game alongside Joel, before she was just a nieve kid. Personally I am more interested in carrying on where we left off. you can still have Ellie as the main protagonist in the game that fine as Ellie’s section in the last instalment was bad-ass. be cool to see a change of roles as now Joel could play a much older character giving Tommy a much bigger role in the game. Ellie still doesn’t fully know what happened with the firefly and the fact that Joel Lied to her. Maybe this could lead to a decent plot that maybe the firefly are still searching for her for the cure?
excuse the rant haha
I would not want to play The Last Of Us 2 if Joel isn’t in it, I’m sorry. I know that Ellie was a great character, but I wouldn’t want to play a game that just focused on her, or Marlene, or Joel’s brother. It wouldn’t be the same without Joel.
