The fourth season of the American thriller drama series “The Following” has been canceled by Fox after its Season 3 finale in May last year that left a huge cliffhanger.
While it’s no use crying over spilled milk at this time, but the reason why the TV series actually ended that way during its final episode of Season 3 is because it has more interesting stories to tell.
The revelation came from executive producer Alexi Hawley who said that the Season 3 finale was crafted as a prelude to a possible Season 4. But with Season 4 no longer happening, the Season 3 finale left “The Following” viewers with major unanswered questions.
A very rich serial killer
Hawley further disclosed that the show’s writing team was fascinated by the possibility of a serial killer that was not coming from the poor or middle class of society, notes the Vine Report.
He said that if the show was going to have an evil force out there for Season 4, it has to be something bigger than Theo, played by Michael Ealy, or something bigger than Strauss, played by Gregg Henry, or more dominating than Joe Caroll, played by James Purefoy.
The showrunner said that the idea of having a very wealthy person or small group as the show’s big bad appealed to them.
He added that the concept of having an extremely rich serial killer, which he also described as an uber-rich serial killer, appealed to them in order for “The Following” to break away from the identity of the murderer, details Breathecast.
Hawley said that the uber-rich were never identified and captured as serial killers, referring to alleged murderer and “Jinx” subject Robert Durst. He said that could not possibly be a result of genetics because they usually do not have such proclivities.
Along with a rumored villain, there are talks saying that Ryan Hardy, played by Kevin Bacon, is set to take on a vigilante role in “The Following” Season 4.
Hawley teased that it had been Hardy answering the question he had been asking for the first three seasons, which were about having a life and becoming happy outside his obsessions. He said that the answer to those queries was ‘no’ but it had felt that viewers had really needed to answer it.
Getting more acting assignments
The mark of a great actor is the amount of work he is doing because producers and directors take notice of how good he or she is in acting regardless of whether that is on the big screen or on the small screen.
Kevin Bacon, the erstwhile lead star of “The Following” on Fox, is one of those actors who seem to never run out of TV or film assignments.
Regardless of the roles he plays, Bacon takes on just about anything that comes his way for as long as he can exhibit his acting skills, which is the reason why he is one of the most durable actors in Hollywood these days.
There have been reports that the “Tremors” franchise that had been out for nearly two decades, will be revived soon and that he is being considered to reprise his role in the first movie, which is yet again a testament to his durability and acting prowess.
Just recently, an indie thriller movie featuring Kevin Bacon was also released. Entitled “Cop Car,” the film is about a corrupt cop and a couple of punk kids.
Critics have described the movie as really tight and intense and it does not go in the direction that viewers think it would go, making it really very atmospheric and effective. The movie can now be streamed on Amazon Video or be rented on iTunes.
Although, not a big-budget movie, “Cop Car” is better in a lot of ways that Kevin Bacon’s new horror movie called “The Darkness.”
Critics think that “Cop Car” is so superior to “The Darkness” that viewers are better off watching the thriller film than the supposed horror movie.
