Season 1 of “The Following” focused on former FBI agent Ryan Hardy and his attempts to recapture serial killer Joe Carroll following the latter’s escape from prison. Hardy soon discovered that Carroll has surrounded himself with people who thinks like him and turned them into a cult of fanatical killers.
When Carroll’s son Joey Matthews, played by Kyle Catlett, is abducted by the cult, FBI agents Mike Weston, played by Shawn Ashmore, Debra Parker, played by Annie Parisse, and the rest of the agency discovered later on that it was just part of a bigger ploy for Caroll to escape custody, embarrass Hardy, and be reunited with his ex-wife, Claire Matthews, played by Natalie Zea.
Season 2 features a new cult led by Lily Gray, played by Connie Nielsen, and her twin sons Mark and Luke, both played by Sam Underwood, who attempted to lure Caroll out of hiding even as the rest of the world thinks the serial killer is dead. Weston is taken in by the agency again through Special Agent Mendez, played by Valerie Cruz, in order to track the new cult. Ryan and his niece Max, played by Jessica Stroup, have plans of their own to look for Caroll too.
The third season goes back to following the life of Ryan Hardy after arresting and putting back Caroll behind bars. He is living a more peaceful life now with his niece and his girlfriend Gwen. Weston, however, takes a different path to hunting down Mark Gray who is the new antagonist. Although Caroll is already on death row, waiting to be executed, he still played an important role during the third season.
This is one of the best shows on TV! Kevin Bacon at his best!!
Please don’t cancel!

Why there’s not a bigger outcry is beyond me.Of course,if season 3 was a ratings disaster,I guess it’s understandable.
I’m hoping Netflix recuses this show. Its a compelling drama that was almost always a series on HBO or Showtime in the past.Seeing a network such as Fox take a chance was refreshing and hope for the future of television.I have only watched this on Netflix but if the third season has dropped off in the ratings I would be surprised.I haven’t seen season 3 yet,but the first two seasons were excellent and very edgy for a network channel. If it’s dropped everybody loses including the edgy shows that were planned for the future.
I Hope this show continues, and that Joe perseveres. As sick of a SOB he is – This show is too delicious with him in it :D
