If things worked out between the producers of the American thriller drama TV series “The Following” and Netflix, Season 4 of the show might get picked up by the popular streaming service soon and possibly aired early next year.
While this development has yet to be confirmed by both parties, it seems that Warner Bros Television is determined to find the show a new home following the decision of Fox to cancel its fourth season as a result of dismal Season 3 ratings, reports Youth Health Mag.
After receiving the sad news about Fox’s decision, loyal fans of the show were still hopeful that online streaming sites like Hulu would be able to rescue Season 4 of “The Following” from cancellation, positive that the streaming site would have a place for the Kevin Bacon-starrer because it recently saved “The Mindy Project” Season 5 from cancellation.
However, Hulu has turned down the offer, leaving fans even feeling sorrier. But that did not deter Warner Bros Television from shopping for other distributors of the series. Word has it that Netflix might be entertaining the offer, but no confirmation has been made on such thus far.
So while fans eagerly await developments for the show, they are mostly keeping their fingers crossed hoping to see Ryan Hardy and serial killer Joe Caroll, played by James Purefoy, play their mind games again in the series, which somehow appeared to draw semblance to “The Silence of the Lambs” movie shown in 1991 starring Oscar-winning actress Jodi Foster and Anthony Hopkins.
Hanging finale
The series finale of “The Following” Season 3 was left in a cliff-hanger, which indicates that the producers of the show were not expecting it to be cancelled, notes Venture Capital Post.
Ryan Hardy might have been left for dead but many questions were left unanswered as Season 3 drew to a close with fans wondering if he managed to survive because his girlfriend Gwen, played by Zuleikha Robinson, is already pregnant with his child. There are still many plot twists waiting to be discovered like who Eliza is working for.
As a matter of fact, the producers of the series already had the Season 4 for “The Following” planned before they received word from Fox that the network was not renewing the show.
Actor Kevin Bacon may have a hint that Fox would not be renewing the show for a fourth season because 10 days before the series finale that was shown on May 18, he tweeted on social media giving his big love to the loyal fans of “The Following.”
His post on Twitter also said the he finds it an honor to work for the fans and that the sweat, tears and lots of blood seemed to have been worth it. He also told fans that they should enjoy the remaining episodes of the show.
A gripping series
What makes “The Following” a hit among loyal viewers is the very gripping storyline which is normally found only in suspense-thriller movies.
Created by Kevin Williamson, the series is co-produced by Warner Bros Television and Outerbanks Entertainment.
Season 1 premiered on January 21, 2013 and had 15 episodes that concluded on April 29, 2013. The second season also had 15 episodes that began airing on January 19, 2014, and wrapped up on April 28, 2014.
The third season, on the other hand, premiered on March 2, 2015, which was rather late from its usual schedule, already hinting that Fox is already having second thoughts about the show by then. Season 3 culminated with its 15th and final episode on May 18, 2015, after which the network announced the cancellation of its fourth season.
This is one of the best shows on TV! Kevin Bacon at his best!!
Please don’t cancel!

Why there’s not a bigger outcry is beyond me.Of course,if season 3 was a ratings disaster,I guess it’s understandable.
I’m hoping Netflix recuses this show. Its a compelling drama that was almost always a series on HBO or Showtime in the past.Seeing a network such as Fox take a chance was refreshing and hope for the future of television.I have only watched this on Netflix but if the third season has dropped off in the ratings I would be surprised.I haven’t seen season 3 yet,but the first two seasons were excellent and very edgy for a network channel. If it’s dropped everybody loses including the edgy shows that were planned for the future.
I Hope this show continues, and that Joe perseveres. As sick of a SOB he is – This show is too delicious with him in it :D
