We’ve recently learned various details about the upcoming third season of “The Blacklist”, including some more interesting upcoming developments that might shake up the foundation of the show significantly. Various things are coming up that may or may not have long-term implications for the series, but one thing is certain: the whole season is shaping up to be a very exciting one.
One of the things that were revealed was that Tom Keen will likely be coming back and we’ll see what he’s been doing lately, and on the other hand his wife Liz will be on the run for quite a while. The two of them will potentially face some difficulties in their relationship and they’ll have to figure out a way to overcome the situation, but we don’t know the exact details of that. All we’ve seen so far is that they will “see their relationship in a new light”, and that doesn’t exactly have positive implications for what might happen.
But from what we’ve been able to see, they will both undergo some transformations in their personalities which will reflect on their relationship very significantly, and will make them reevaluate what they actually want from that relationship. Liz will be hit particularly hard by the whole thing, as she isn’t exactly used to the idea of living like a criminal and this will have a major impact on her mentality.
On the other hand, Tom will change his opinion of Liz significantly once he learns about her actions, and he will not leave the situation like it is, but will rather speak up and even take matters in his own hands, trying to do something to alleviate the whole issue. But we have no idea how this is all going to go down, and it might end up being a very dramatic season just for those two characters alone.
We’re definitely going to see a change in their personalities from last season, that’s for sure – they will apparently no longer have that strong interest in running away together, or at least Liz will change her opinion of that, deciding to instead join Red and go up against the Cabal. Tom’s reaction to all this will likely play a very important role in determining how the rest of the season is going to play out, and we might see some drama right from the start.
According to people attached to the production, the very first episode of the new season is going to show a very interesting picture, and could be seen as something like a separate pilot rather than just the premiere of a new season. This implies a large number of changes coming up, but exact details about the contents of that episode remain blurry. Which can be expected, after all – if the producers really are planning a more dramatic and tense season that starts off with an intense first episode, it wouldn’t make much sense to spoil a lot from that premiere.
On the other hand, producers have also urged fans to avoid making any conclusions about the relationship between Liz and Red based on what they see in that first episode, as it might be a bit misleading in the long run. We don’t know what the implications of that might be, but we wouldn’t put it past the producers to have thrown in a few red herrings to force viewers to be more critical of what they’re seeing.
