Tekken 7: Fated Retribution Coming in Early 2017, Cross-Platform Support Still Uncertain!

It’s a messy situation, but we trust that the folks at Bandai Namco are going to handle it properly and will think through every aspect of their decision. Cross-play would be a huge hit with “Tekken 7” fans if done right, but it could also destroy the popularity of the game in no time.

We certainly hope that the experiment proves successful though, as this would set a very strong precedent for other developers in the future.

After all, many companies would probably gladly implement cross-play if they had some certainty in the outcome. A large company like Bandai Namco can comfortably afford to take such risks, but others don’t have this luxury.

That’s why the final outcome will be so important, and why so many people are actively focused on the situation even if they don’t directly care about “Tekken 7” itself. The implications of whatever happens will be quite major for gamers all around, and the effects will be felt for a long time in the future of the industry. We’ll find out where things are headed in a few months, but if we don’t hear any major announcements by the release date of the game, it’s probably safe to assume that the idea of cross-play has been dropped for good.
