Rumors about the upcoming DLC for “Super Smash Bros” have been somewhat strange, as it seems like the game is about to include some rather unconventional characters. Nintendo recently launched an official poll to decide who’s going to be added to the game as a DLC character, and while the list was mostly generic and there was nothing out of the ordinary in most entries, one particular option was actively discussed among fans, usually in a joking manner – Britney Spears.
It might sound like a joke, and many players did seem to think that way at first, but Nintendo are apparently perfectly serious. And what’s more interesting, players have actually been voting for Britney quite actively, sending thousands of votes in her direction, according to reports. It’s starting to seem more and more likely that Britney is going to be the next character added to the title, for good or bad.
And of course, fans are already speculating about the kinds of moves that her in-game persona could have. The most prominent theory right now is that Britney will be using some of her trademark dance moves in order to fight her enemies. However, that’s not confirmed yet and it’s just the product of fans’ imagination, although we wouldn’t put it past Nintendo’s developers to do something like that.
Meanwhile, Nintendo have been quite active in keeping the game up to date and addressing issues with its gameplay while also releasing new characters and preparing even more additions. There are still some minor problems with the way the game plays and handles, according to most players, but in the end a game like this takes some time to polish correctly – including after its release – and as long as Nintendo keep making it evident that they are determined to keep the product balanced and functional, gamers should be happy.
Most of the changes have been aimed at various specific characters, and it’s highly probable that the developers aren’t done rebalancing everything and are still collecting data and feedback in order to determine how exactly they should change things further.
Players continue to explore what the game has to offer as well, testing new moves and combinations of characters that lead to some rather strange effects. That’s not so surprising considering that the previous games in the series received a lot of attention in this regard and players kept discovering new things about their gameplay long after their initial releases.
Recently, a new way to deliver a powerful hit was discovered by some of the more creative members of the community, allowing a player to dish out a whopping 158% damage in just one single hit. This technique reportedly doesn’t even require any special items to be used, although it does require the coordination of four separate players, which makes it slightly useless for most normal gameplay purposes. Still, it’s fun to explore things like that in order to test the game’s mechanics and push its engine to the limit.
Specifically, players need to use the Super Timber move of Villager, resulting in a chain reaction of reflects that cause the aforementioned 158% damage. Whether or not this was intended remains to be seen, but Nintendo haven’t commented on the situation so far and we don’t know if they plan to address the “feature” in a future update. For what it’s worth, most players will likely be disappointed if this was removed as it’s seen as a fun, neat little feature.
