There was previously a lot of debate over whether Carrie Fisher should play in a new “Star Wars” film, considering how much time has passed since her previous role. However, the actress might have been recently shown in her costume for the upcoming film, and if that leak is true then fans might change their minds about whether or not they want to see her returning.
Of course, it’s still going to be interesting to see how the producers plan to integrate her character into the story, but we don’t doubt that they’ll figure out a creative way to make use of her personality. She’s still one of the most iconic actors to be associated with the “Star Wars” franchise, and we can easily see her contributing a lot to the new film.
Meanwhile, we might be able to get some hints about the new film from a soon-to-be-released comic. The storyline of the comic book may or may not be related to the film directly, but it’s very possible that we’ll see some of the events from “Star Wars: Shattered Empire” at least referenced in the film, if not developed into their own subplots.
The comic book is supposed to come out in September, and it’s going to take a look at the state of the Empire and the Rebel Alliance after the battle of Endor, as well as the fall of Emperor Palpatine. The plot description for the comic book implies that it will take a look at an empire that still sees Moffs and governors in control, and the Rebel Alliance is set to discover that the Empire might be more dangerous than they previously believed.
In the end, that summary doesn’t actually give many specific details about what we’re going to see in the comic book in terms of plot developments, but it does imply that the struggle between the Alliance and the Empire is going to be a major plot point. In addition, it should give us a good insight into the universe of “Star Wars” in a post-Jedi scenario. It would certainly be interesting, and it can be tied to the film in various interesting ways as well.
We’re supposed to get more information about the film before it’s released in different forms, including extra downloadable content for “Star Wars: Battlefront” which will let players take part in the Battle of Jakku. All in all, Disney are expanding their newly acquired intellectual property quite nicely, and they’re actively thinking about ways that it can be explored in different directions.
Which is certainly not a bad thing by any means, but they should always remember the franchise’s roots and what drew fans to it in the first place. Straying too far away from that could end up alienating the core fan base of the franchise, which in turn would be quite bad.
It’s still better to see that Disney are actively trying to do more with “Star Wars” instead of just letting it collect dust on their shelves. The studio certainly has no shortage of other franchises that they could be paying attention to right now, and “Star Wars” is just another entry in their collection at this point.
But they’re obviously determined to not let fans of the original films down, and they’re looking into ways to expand the horizons of “Star Wars” while retaining the general interest that original fans had in the films. It’s a fine balance line that has to be observed very carefully.
