Brothers Anthony and Joe Russo will be directing the “Spider-Man” reboot movie starring Tom Holland which is due to hit theaters on July 28, 2017.
But before the web-slinging superhero makes his debut in his stand-alone film, he will first make a cameo appearance in the upcoming Marvel movie “Captain America: Civil War” due to hit theaters on May 6.
Interestingly, Anthony and Joe Russo are also co-directing the third Captain America movie which is why they can phase in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man character in “Captain America: Civil War” without really affecting his stand-alone movie to come out more than a year later.
In a recent interview, Anthony and Joe Russo said that they want Marvel’s Spider-Man to be different from previous incarnations of the iconic wall-crawler, notes Movieweb.
One of the most important components that they saw in the character which the brothers shall be maintaining on the reboot movie is that Peter Parker is a high schooler burdened with incredible powers and responsibility. They said that that attribute really differentiates Spider-Man from every other character in the Marvel universe.
They also added that the previous films had adults playing a high schooler. Anthony and Joe said that they wanted more authenticity to the casting and they were very specific about that which is why they pick Tom Holland for the role.
The Russo brothers also confirmed that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man character will exude energy, charisma, as well as insecurity that would really make him fun to watch, in contrast to the usually confident superheroes.
More grounded and realistic
They also confirmed previous reports that the “Spider-Man” reboot movie will be skipping the iconic origin story.
Joe Russo added that he wanted to make Peter Parker a truly contemporary character who will have a more grounded and realistic living environment.
He said that they wanted to relate the movie to the reality about a character growing up with his aunt in New York, a single-income family, and thus, they intend to give a very logical, realistic, and naturalistic approach to the character.
Anthony Russo also added that the MCU itself helped inform the choices they made for the “Spider-Man” reboot movie and they made it a little more hard-core contemporary.
First year in high school
There have been rumors that the “Spider-Man” reboot will feature Peter Parker as a first-year high school student with the subsequent sequels also taking place over one year of his high school career.
The previous “Spider-Man” films did not spend much time in high school so it would be very interesting to see how the reboot takes shape.
Tom Holland has already finished filming his part in “Captain America: Civil War” which the young British actor described as a brilliant and huge movie.
He also added that the movie made him 10 times more excited to start on “Spider-Man” reboot, which will be happening in the next few weeks, notes the Flickering Myth.
Holland is still overwhelmed with the fact that he has bagged the iconic Spider-Man role. He was recently quoted in an interview that it still does not feel real to him but his life has already changed even this early.
He said that his main goal is to make sure that his work as Peter Parker and Spider-Man does not fall below a certain caliber. He wants to do big blockbuster Marvel movies alright but he also wants to continue doing small independent movies and make sure that he does not lose touch with that particular side of the industry.
Much of the focus of Marvel Studios these days is on its upcoming film, “Captain America: Civil War,” due to hit global theaters on May 6.
However, one of the facets of promotions of the upcoming third Captain America movie is Tom Holland’s debut as Spider-Man. The film also happens to be the first foray of Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the deal forged between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures in February of last year.
In a recent interview, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said that “Spider-Man” reboot may not be as big as the “Captain America” or “Iron Man” trilogy but he added that smaller scale is relative.
Feige said that the “Spider-Man” stand-alone film is going to be as big and spectacular a Spider-Man as has ever been made.
