Ever since Marvel Studios confirmed that the official title of the Spider-Man movie is “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” fans and critics have been wondering as to what was the possible reason for the decision of the production company.
There were speculations saying that the reason for the word ‘Homecoming’ in the title of the upcoming Spider-Man movie is because it is going to be the homecoming of the web-slinging superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After all, Spider-Man is actually the most popular Marvel superhero character in Marvel Comics but the MCU seemed to have turned the tide in favor of Iron Man and Captain America.
Now it seems clear that the reason for the inclusion of ‘Homecoming’ in the title of the next Spider-Man movie is because a homecoming event shall be the highlight of the film, which would happen towards the end.
According to latest spoilers, Adrian Toomes’s alter ego known as The Vulture, played by veteran actor Michael Keaton, shall be crashing the homecoming celebration at the high school in Queens in New York where Peter Parker is studying.
Apparently, the clash between Spider-Man and The Vulture at the homecoming celebration shall be the highlight of the movie and the fight is expected to spill over eventually outside of Queens and the streets of New York, reports Yibada.
Other villains for Spider-Man
There are also reports saying that other than The Vulture, Spider-Man might also go up against Mad Titan Thanos, Venom, and the Green Goblin.
But there is a good chance that Thanos would appear in the post-credits which could mean that he could come out in the next installment of the “Spider-Man” franchise under the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, Marvel Studios has yet to confirm whether there will be a sequel to “Spider-Man: Homecoming” or not but there is likely to be one once the movie becomes a blockbuster when it officially hits theaters on July 7, 2017.
There have been previous reports which said that another villain in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” will be making his MCU debut and it could be anybody between Norman Osborn a.k,a Green Goblin or Eddie Brock a.k.a. Venom or perhaps both.
There are also reports saying that a possible female version of the Daily Bugle editor-in-chief J. Jonah Jameson, played by Tyne Daly, shall be featured in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”
A possible spinoff of ‘Spider-Man’
Tom Roth, Chairman of Sony Pictures, recently came out to say during an interview that they are looking at finally releasing some news on the long-planned spinoff film of “Spider-Man.”
He said that they are working a lot of ideas on the spinoff and there is now a concerted effort to finally make it happen, adding that they might be able to come up with real news before long.
The speculations are rife in saying that the spinoff could focus on villain-turned-antihero Venom, following previous rumors that the character shall indeed get his own film, reports The Week of UK.
In fact, the reports are also saying that independent filmmaker Dante Harper has been given the job of writing the script for “Venom.” However, it is still not known which iteration of Venom is Sony Pictures looking at. But one thing seems certain at this point is that the spinoff movie will stand alone from “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”
Incidentally, Tom Holland’s cameo role as Peter Parker and Spider-Man in “Captain America: Civil War” was more than enough to spark interest on the latest rendition to the wall-climbing superhero as he officially enters the MCU.
Since Tobey Maguire’s three-film rendition of Peter Parker / Spider-Man from 2002 to 2007, the character has suffered a big-screen slump. And it is not even because of Andrew Garfield who took on the character in the two film reboots from 2012 to 2014, entitled as “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” respectively.
With the right ingredient and a great young actor in Tom Holland, Marvel Studios appears to have succeeded in bringing the needed zest to the franchise.
