What the director did reveal was that the 2017 film will be a flashback story inspired by the comic book “Ultimate Spider-Man,” hence the rumored presence of Miles Morales in the movie.
The fictional superhero appeared in the “Ultimate Spider-Man” comic books. The character possesses powers similar to those of Spider-Man, which were derived from the bite of a spider genetically engineered by Spider-Man’s foe, Norman Osborn, in an attempt to duplicate the superhero’s abilities.
Watts says that he takes a lot of inspiration from what Brian Michael Bendis did in the comic books as Peter dealt more with his problems as a high school student and less as a superhero.
In addition, Jon says that other Spider-Man comics he takes inspiration for the film are Sean McKeever’s “Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane” which features the superhero as a teenager.
According to Watts, the story of the comic books details Peter’s life as a soap opera. It has huge similarities with “Ultimate Spider-Man” because they both show the superhero in high school as well as feature him dealing with relationship issues.
With the upcoming “Spider-Man” movie still more than a year away before it hits the big screen, more information is bound to come out in the coming months. But for now, fans could expect to see Tom Holland take on the web-sling superhero when “Captain America: Civil War” premieres next year.
