Creator Daniel Cerone of the American supernatural action-thriller TV series “Constantine” has given up the fight to bring back Season 2 of the show on TV amid its cancellation in April by the NBC network.
Cerone has given himself until the first two weeks of June to rescue the show from cancellation as the contracts of the stars are only good until that period.
However, with no clear future for the show in sight, the series has officially released the cast from their contracts and Cerone put the nail in the coffin by posting in social media that the show is over, notes Den of Geek.
Even when NBC decided to cancel the show in April, Cerone still haggled with the network for a couple of weeks. When he got a negative answer from the NBC network bosses, he decided to pitch the saving of “Constantine” to sister networks SyFy and The CW.
SyFy denied ever dealing or expressing interest on the show so Cerone was left with a last ditch effort to save “Constantine” with The CW.
The tweet that said it all
In his latest tweet, Daniel Cerone posted a mouthful in delivering the bad news to anxiously waiting show fans. He confirmed that the cast and the writers of “Constantine” are being released from their contracts as the efforts of the studio to find a new home for the show proved futile.
Cerone also acknowledged the writers and staff that breathed life into the characters in “Constantine,” citing also how the writers were the true people behind any TV series.
He also said that he is just happy that the writers of “Constantine” are leaving the dream behind through the show’s passionate fans who believe in what they tried to do. Although he expressed sadness for leaving the dedicated and active fan base on the table, he said that the good news is that “Constantine” will live on for years in many forms.
Cerone ended his tweet by saying that their time as caretakers has ended and thanked the show fans for letting them in into their hearts and minds even for a brief run.
Attempts to rescue the show
Last week, Cerone was still reportedly dealing with The CW network in the hope of rescuing Season 2 of the show from cancellation.
At that time, Cerone just do not want “Constantine” to go quietly into the night, believing that show fans deserve to see John Constantine and his exploits some more.
Cerone has been actively posting the development for the salvage of the show and he only has until this month to do so since most of the contracts of the actors of the TV series will end this June.
According to some reports, Fox is also in contention to save the series from cancellation. If ever, “Constantine” will actually complete the network’s supernatural TV show roster along with “Lucifer” and “Frankenstein.”
